Kamala Harris Fails to Top Poll in Home State for 2028 Presidential Nomination

Former Vice President Kamala Harris’s political stock continues to tank as Democrats look ahead to 2028.

A brutal new poll shows Harris badly trailing behind other party heavyweights, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

The Emerson College survey released Friday paints a grim picture for the failed 2024 presidential candidate.

“Looking ahead to the 2028 presidential nomination contest, Governor Gavin Newsom leads the Democratic primary with 23%, followed by former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg at 17%, Vice President Kamala Harris at 11%, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at 9%,” the poll found.

The numbers come despite Harris’s years in the national spotlight as vice president and her brief turn at the top of the 2024 Democrat ticket after Joe Biden dropped out.

The survey was conducted August 4–5, 2025, among 1,000 registered California voters, with a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.

Among 444 likely Democrat primary voters, the margin of error was +/- 4.6 points.

Back in May, The Hill reported that Senate Democrats were already nervous about the idea of Harris running again.

Many on the Left fear Harris’s deep unpopularity and lack of political skill would all but hand the White House to Republicans in 2028.

Meanwhile, her 2024 running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, has been leaving the door open for his own presidential ambitions.

In July, Harris ruled out a run for California governor in 2026.

She issued a vague statement claiming she had spent the last six months “reflecting on this moment in our nation’s history” and figuring out the “best way” to keep “fighting for the American people.”

Harris said she would be “getting back out and listening” to voters and working to elect more Democrats.

She promised to share “more details” about her plans later.

One of those “plans” turned out to be a memoir about her failed 2024 campaign.

Harris announced the book to widespread ridicule.

One social media user summed up the reaction perfectly:

“A book full of word salad.

“A must read, I’m sure.”

With numbers this bad, Harris’s 2028 hopes look as empty as her speeches.

Democrats appear ready to move on.
