FBI Director Kash Patel is moving to launch an investigation into anti-Trump New York City Judge Juan Merchan and his family.
Patel is urging Congress to probe the judge and his family, alleging financial misconduct tied to Merchan’s courtroom.
Merchan, a Joe Biden donor, oversaw the Democrats’ so-called “hush money” case against President Donald Trump that was led by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
During the trial, it emerged that the Columbia-born judge had deep ties to the Democratic Party.
The judge’s daughter, Loren Merchan, worked on the election campaigns of several high-profile Democrats, including Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
During an appearance on Fox News with Trace Gallagher, Patel announced his push for subpoenas to uncover whether Merchan’s daughter’s company profited from information leaked from the judge’s court.
Patel claims that Merchan’s daughter’s company has received over $15 million from leaked information related to the Trump trial.
Now, the FBI chief is calling for a thorough investigation into the financial transactions.
“It’s shockingly unconstitutional, Trace,” Patel said during the segment.
“It’s great to be with you, and I’m here to announce on your show a measure that I’m working with Congress that should be Congress’s bread and butter, and I’m calling for the subpoenas to be issued to Judge Merchant’s daughter’s company, who made 15 plus million dollars from the illicit information pouring out of her father’s courtroom.”
Patel emphasized the need to follow the money, calling for a full financial audit of the transactions.
“I want to know the bank records because money doesn’t lie,” Patel said.
“I want to know how deep it is and how much of it went to the family, and how much of it is going to the family after this false conviction.”
Beyond the financial concerns, Patel raised potential violations of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
He argues that Judge Merchan should never have presided over a case involving Trump, given the alleged conflicts of interest.
“And then we need to investigate the FTC actual violations that this judge and his family conducted because he should never have been overseeing this trial to begin with, because of the illicit campaign money that was flowing through there, and the unconstitutional due process violations are only the beginning.”
Patel stressed that Congress must take action to hold the judicial system accountable.
“So America is calling for accountability of the judicial system, and Congress is the only lever that has it,” he said.
“And I’m hoping for one or two brave members of Congress that I’m talking to to issue those subpoenas ASAP.”

Patel’s call for an investigation adds to the growing scrutiny surrounding Merchan’s involvement in Trump-related legal matters.
While there has been no official congressional response yet, Patel is actively engaging with lawmakers to move forward with the subpoenas.
The developments come amid increasing concerns over judicial impartiality in high-profile political cases.
Whether Patel’s push for subpoenas gains traction remains to be seen.
However, his statements on Fox News indicate a strong push from conservative voices to investigate potential judicial misconduct.
