Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is calling for what she describes as a “full travel ban” on countries sending violent offenders and opportunistic migrants into the United States.
Noem unveiled her proposal after meeting with President Donald Trump amid national outrage over last week’s deadly attack on two National Guard members in Washington, D.C.
In a fiery statement posted to social media, Noem said she told the president that America must shut its doors to nations responsible for sending what she called “killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.”
“I just met with the President,” Noem wrote.
“I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.
“Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom — not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS.
“WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.”
I just met with the President.

President Trump reshared Noem’s statement on Truth Social, signaling clear support.
The call for a sweeping ban comes days after Trump halted all immigration from Afghanistan and suspended decisions on refugee claims following the brutal D.C. terrorist attack.
During the attack, 20-year-old West Virginia National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom was murdered, and her colleague, 24-year-old Andrew Woolfe, was critically wounded.
Trump has also pledged to “permanently pause migration” from all Third World nations, while announcing that immigrants from 19 already-restricted countries would have their cases reopened and re-evaluated.
Those countries include Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, Haiti, Sudan, Yemen, Libya, and Venezuela.
The suspect in the D.C. attack, 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, has been charged with first-degree murder and assault with intent to kill.
Prosecutors are pushing for Lakanwal to receive the death penalty.
Sources told the New York Post and NBC News that Lakanwal is an Afghan national who entered the U.S. under Joe Biden’s widely criticized Operation Allies Welcome.
The program is tied to Biden’s chaotic and deadly botched 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal.
Lakanwal had been living in Washington State and reportedly ambushed the two Guardsmen at the Farragut West Metro station just blocks from the White House.
Law enforcement officials told CNN the suspect fired first at close range, then shot at the second soldier as he attempted to take cover.
Lakanwal was shot by responding officers and is currently hospitalized.
Authorities recovered a handgun believed to be used in the attack.
“This individual was previously arrested for terrible crimes, including child sex abuse, grand theft auto, and false imprisonment, but was released back into our Homeland under incompetent Joe Biden,” Trump wrote after the shooting.
Trump vowed that “the animal” responsible “will pay a very steep price.”
The ambush triggered a massive law-enforcement and military response. Helicopters landed on the National Mall to evacuate one of the victims, while the FBI, ATF, and Secret Service swarmed the scene.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth called the attack a “cowardly, dastardly act, targeting the best of America.”
Trump, who has already deployed 2,300 National Guard members to Washington, ordered an additional 500 troops into the city after the shooting.
“God bless our Great National Guard, and all of our Military and Law Enforcement,” he wrote.
“These are truly Great People.”
Law enforcement sources told CNN that Lakanwal has refused to cooperate with investigators.
Noem’s proposed travel ban now adds new momentum to Trump’s immigration crackdown and places renewed pressure on officials in states and cities that have resisted federal enforcement efforts.
