President Donald Trump humiliated two Democrat senators by mocking them to their faces in front of a large crowd gathered at the White House.
During a White House event honoring the Los Angeles Dodgers for their 2024 World Series championship, Trump caused the room to erupt in laughter.
The lighthearted moment came during his remarks at the event.
Trump included an unscripted comment aimed at California Democrat Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla.
Both Schiff and Padilla were in attendance.
Trump went off-script to declare that he doesn’t “particularly like” Schiff or Padilla.
The comments triggered the attendees, including the Dodgers, to break out in laughter.
The Dodgers secured the Major League Baseball title last November after defeating the New York Yankees in five games.
The visit to the White House marked a significant shift from 2020.
In 2020, the team declined to participate in a similar ceremony after their championship win that year.
During the event, Trump addressed the team and several guests gathered in the East Room.
While acknowledging those present, Trump made an unexpected remark.
“We have a couple of senators here,” Trump said as he gestured toward Schiff and Padilla.
“I just don’t particularly like them, so I won’t introduce them.”
The comment was met with laughter from the audience, including members of the Dodgers organization.
The extended reaction momentarily paused Trump’s prepared remarks.
“Over the course of this amazing season, the members of this team…” Trump began again, before being interrupted by more laughter from the room.
Turning toward a team member nearby, Trump leaned in and quietly added:
“I didn’t think it was that big of a deal, actually,” referring to the audience’s response.
WATCH:
The brief moment drew attention not just because of the presence of the two Democrat senators from California.
Sen. Schiff, a longtime critic of Trump, and Sen. Padilla, who succeeded Kamala Harris in the Senate, both attended the ceremony as part of the state’s official delegation.
Neither Schiff nor Padilla responded publicly to the comment during the event.
The White House ceremony otherwise focused on the accomplishments of the Dodgers.
Trump congratulated the team on their championship season.
The president also highlighted the club’s performance throughout the 2024 campaign.
“This team showed resilience, skill, and heart,” Trump said during his formal remarks.
“You brought pride to Los Angeles and to baseball fans across the country.”
The event also included appearances by Dodgers executives, coaching staff, and players.
Several team members presented the president with a personalized jersey.
They also posed for photos following the ceremony.
Trump has regularly hosted championship teams at the White House.
The visits often draw national attention for their mix of celebration and political subtext.
Monday’s event was no exception.
The Dodgers’ decision to attend marked a shift from past years.
In 2020, the team declined an invitation following their title win, citing political disagreements.
Their participation this year was seen by some observers as a reflection of changing dynamics both within the organization and in broader political circles.
The ceremony concluded without incident, and the team departed the White House after the presentation.
Neither Schiff nor Padilla issued any statements following the event.
