Larry Summers in Hiding as New Epstein Scandal Emerges

Former Bill Clinton administration Treasury Secretary Larry Summers has gone into hiding after the newly released Epstein files exposed his disturbing private messages with Jeffrey Epstein, including discussions about a female mentee and a possible affair.

Summers, a longtime Democrat power player, top Clinton-era official, and former president of Harvard University, announced Monday that he is stepping back from public commitments.

The revelations come from 2018–2019 messages uncovered in the House-released Epstein documents, a political earthquake that continues to batter Democrats.

Summers repeatedly reached out to Epstein for advice about a woman he referred to as “peril,” according to the messages.

In a January 2019 exchange, Summers told Epstein the woman was unlikely to leave him because of his influence and the professional benefits tied to him, to which Epstein replied:

“She is doomed to be with you.”

In another message from November 2018, Summers wrote:

“Think for now I’m going nowhere with her except economics mentor.

“I think I’m right now in the seen very warmly in rear view mirror category.”

By March 2019, Summers told Epstein:

“She must be very confused or maybe wants to cut me off but wants professional connection a lot and so holds to it.”

The Harvard Crimson reported that some of the exchanges appear to reference Keyu Jin ’04, then a tenured professor at the London School of Economics.

Summers even forwarded Epstein an email from Jin seeking feedback on a paper, to which Epstein replied:

“She’s already begining to sound needy 🙂 nice.”

There is no indication Jin ever engaged in a romantic relationship with Summers, nor is it clear she was aware the two men were discussing her so crudely behind the scenes.

Summers and Epstein also joked about him potentially sleeping with her, and in later messages, Summers described jealousy and frustration, complaining she was canceling plans and possibly interested in another man.

He further discussed his relationship with her father, a powerful former Chinese Communist Party official and founding president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

Summers bragged to Epstein about flattering the father during meetings, minutes after forwarding Jin’s emails seeking academic support.

Summers Apologizes After Being Exposed

Following publication of the messages, Summers issued a statement attempting to do damage control:

“I am deeply ashamed of my actions and recognize the pain they have caused.

“I will be stepping back from public commitments as one part of my broader effort to rebuild trust and repair relationships with the people closest to me.”

Summers defended his decision to continue teaching while retreating from his public roles, saying he takes responsibility for his “misguided” choice to maintain ties with Epstein.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), formerly a Harvard Law professor, quickly demanded Harvard cut Summers loose.

Warren declared that Summers “cannot be trusted to advise our nation’s politicians, policymakers and institutions — or teach a generation of students at Harvard or anywhere else.”

Hours after the Crimson broke the story, the Economic Club of New York postponed a planned discussion with Summers, claiming it was “postponed due to an unavoidable change in schedule.”

The fallout adds yet another high-profile Democrat to the growing list rocked by the explosive revelations tied to the Epstein files.

It appears the scandal is finally just beginning.
