Lord Peter Mandelson Arrested by UK Police on Epstein-Linked Corruption Charges

Peter Mandelson, the anti-Trump former British ambassador to the United States who was dismissed from his diplomatic post after his ties to Jeffrey Epstein became public, was arrested Monday in England on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

The corruption charges are related to information that was exposed in the Epstein Files released by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

London’s Metropolitan Police confirmed:

“Officers have arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of misconduct in public office” at an address in north London.

The individual was taken to a police station for questioning.

Authorities did not publicly name Mandelson, consistent with standard British police practice.

However, the suspect in the case has previously been identified as Mandelson in connection with the investigation.

Epstein Connections Resurface

Mandelson was removed from his ambassadorial role in September.

He was fired after documents revealed that he maintained contact with Epstein following the financier’s 2008 conviction on sex offenses involving minors.

Financial records disclosed that Epstein transferred approximately $75,000 in 2003 and 2004 to accounts connected to Mandelson or his husband.

Last month, additional materials released by the U.S. DOJ reportedly prompted British authorities to open a criminal probe.

Police are now investigating allegations that Mandelson may have passed sensitive government information to Epstein roughly 15 years ago.

He has not been accused of sexual misconduct.

Political Fallout in the UK

The controversy surrounding Mandelson has created significant political pressure for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Starmer’s decision to appoint Mandelson as ambassador has been described as one of the most serious crises of his premiership.

The prime minister has acknowledged regret over the appointment and has publicly apologized to victims affected by the broader Epstein scandal.

Arrest Follows Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor Case

Mandelson’s arrest comes just four days after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Prince Andrew, was arrested on suspicion of a related offense stemming from his friendship with Epstein.

Andrew was released after approximately 11 hours in custody, while police continue their investigation.

The Metropolitan Police have not announced formal charges at this stage.

Under British law, suspects can be arrested and questioned while investigations continue.

The case adds to mounting scrutiny surrounding political and elite figures who maintained contact with Epstein even after his prior conviction.

Authorities have not indicated when further updates will be provided.
