Mamdani Vows to Push Globalism Over Constitution: NYC Is a ‘City of International Law’

New York City’s incoming radical Democratic Socialist Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has ignited a firestorm after declaring that he views the Big Apple as “a city of international law.”

The claim was immediately blasted by critics as both unconstitutional and divorced from reality.

Mamdani made the chilling remarks during an interview on ABC 7.

Popular X commentator Greg Price summed up the reaction with a dose of sarcasm:

“Last time I checked, I was pretty sure New York is an American city under U.S. law.”

Mamdani’s remark came after he was pressed about earlier comments in which he said he would arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he entered New York City.

The far-left mayor-elect cited a global arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Rather than walk the claim back, Mamdani doubled down.

“I’ve said time and again that I believe this is a city of international law, and being a city of international law means looking to uphold international law, and that means upholding the warrants from the International Criminal Court, whether they’re for Benjamin Netanyahu or Vladimir Putin,” he insisted.

“I think that’s critically important to showcase our values.”

In a seemingly gratuitous jab, he then dragged President Donald Trump into the conversation.

He declared that “unlike Donald Trump,” he intends to “exist within the confines of the laws that we have.”

Mamdani vowed to “exhaust every legal possibility” to follow “global” laws, including ICC warrants.

He continued by claiming that New Yorkers want “consistency” between stated values and political actions, even if that means undermining the U.S. Constitution.

But his stance reveals the exact opposite of what he claims.

While Mamdani insists he respects “the laws that we have,” he is openly championing an idea fundamentally incompatible with the U.S. Constitution, the supreme law of the land.

ICC warrants are not binding on the United States, a nation that has never ratified the Rome Statute and is not under the authority of unelected foreign prosecutors in The Hague.

Mamdani’s framing of New York as a kind of breakaway “international city-state” governed by global institutions, rather than by American law, highlights a deeper ideological drift within the modern Democratic Party.

It’s one that increasingly elevates global bodies and internationalist ideology above U.S. sovereignty, constitutional limits, and the will of American voters.

His comments underscore why critics say the far Left is more comfortable aligning itself with foreign tribunals than with the laws of its own country.

The remarks are yet another reason why Mamdani’s incoming administration is already raising alarms long before he ever sets foot in City Hall.
