New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing renewed scrutiny after a report claimed his wife, Rama Duwaji, liked several social media posts appearing to celebrate Hamas’s October 7, 2023, terrorist attack against Israel.
The report, published by Jewish Insider, says the activity occurred shortly after the assault that killed nearly 1,200 Israelis and foreign workers, wounded thousands, and saw 251 civilians and military personnel kidnapped, along with reports of widespread rape.
Posts Allegedly Celebrated the Attack
“New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani spent the mayoral campaign distancing himself from the most radical anti-Israel elements of his leftist movement, but an examination of his wife’s social media activity reveals she liked multiple Instagram posts cheering on Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, assault,” Jewish Insider reported.
“The posts liked by Rama Duwaji, a Syrian-American artist, unambiguously celebrated the terrorist attack, which saw nearly 1,200 Israelis and foreign workers killed, thousands wounded, 251 civilians and military personnel kidnapped, and numerous episodes of sexual assault.”
Posts Included Images of Hamas Breaching Israel’s Border
According to the report, one of the posts liked by Duwaji was shared on October 7, 2023, by the Instagram account The Slow Factory.
The organization describes itself as “a school, knowledge partner and climate innovation organization.”
The post reportedly included images showing:
• A bulldozer breaching the barrier between Gaza and Israel
• Individuals riding on top of a captured Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) vehicle
Messages superimposed on the images included:
• “Breaking the walls of apartheid and military occupation”
• “Resisting apartheid since 1948”
The images also featured the slogan “Systemic change for collective liberation.”
The caption accompanying the post argued that “if and when the occupation forces retaliate against this resistance,” the people of Gaza would be “punished for wanting freedom from apartheid.”
Additional Posts Linked to Activist Groups
The report also said Duwaji liked two additional posts shared by the People’s Forum, an activist organization.
Jewish Insider described the group as part of a network linked to Neville “Roy” Singham, a Shanghai-based technology entrepreneur who has funded organizations promoting narratives aligned with China, Russia, and Iran.
“Duwaji, again using her personal account, liked two posts from protests the organization led alongside the Democratic Socialists of America and allied organizations in Times Square one day after the attack on Israel,” the outlet reported.
Controversial ‘From the River to the Sea’ Slogan
One of the posts reportedly liked by Duwaji included the phrase “from the river to the sea.”
The slogan is widely interpreted by critics as a call for eliminating Israel between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.
Mayor’s Office Reiterates Condemnation of Hamas
According to Jewish Insider, Duwaji did not respond to requests for comment regarding the social media activity.
The mayor’s office also declined to answer questions about whether Mamdani had discussed the posts with his wife.
Instead, City Hall reiterated Mamdani’s position on the October 7 attack.
“Mayor Mamdani has been clear and consistent: Hamas is a terrorist organization, October 7th was a horrific war crime, and he has condemned that violence unequivocally,” a City Hall spokesperson said.
Political Scrutiny Continues
The report comes as Mamdani, who previously served as a New York state assemblyman, has faced scrutiny over his past ties to left-wing activist movements and pro-Hamas political groups.
During his mayoral campaign, Mamdani publicly criticized a rally held in Times Square shortly after the October 7 attack, saying it was “making light” of Hamas’ massacre of civilians.
The newly reported social media activity involving his wife has now added another layer of controversy surrounding the mayor and his political circle.
