Marjorie Taylor Greene Announces Sudden Resignation from Congress after Trump Withdraws Endorsement

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced late Friday that she will resign from Congress, just one week after President Donald Trump publicly withdrew his endorsement of the Georgia firebrand.

In a lengthy and emotional statement posted to X, Greene said she had grown increasingly disillusioned with Washington.

She blasted what she called a corrupt and entrenched “Political Industrial Complex” that treats Americans as disposable pieces in a permanent culture war.

“Americans are used by the Political Industrial Complex of both political parties, election cycle after election cycle, in order to elect whichever side can convince Americans to hate the other side more,” Greene wrote.

“And the results are always the same — nothing ever gets better for the common American man or woman.”

Greene said she had “never fit in” in Washington and no longer believes Congress is where she can best serve the country.

She argued that the institution has calcified into a self-protecting class more interested in re-election than in representing the people who sent them there.

“I believe in term limits and do not think Congress should be a lifelong career or an assisted living facility,” Greene wrote.

Greene added that she plans to continue fighting for America First policies “in a different way.”

She highlighted her efforts to hold Republicans accountable to their own promises and to push back against what she called Democrats’ harmful agendas on the border, energy, and gender ideology.

Greene also took aim at her own party’s leadership, accusing GOP leaders of running a “sidelined” majority that refuses to take meaningful action.

She complained that House leadership has buried many of her legislative priorities, without ever bringing them to the floor for a vote.

Her legislations include bills to make English the official language of the United States, criminalize gender-transition procedures for minors, and eliminate the H-1B visa program.

“My bills … just sit collecting dust,” she wrote.

“That’s how it is for most members of Congress’s bills, the Speaker never brings them to the floor for a vote.”

Her resignation follows a dramatic public split with President Trump, who last week pulled his endorsement and labeled her “Wacky” and “a ranting lunatic.”

Greene acknowledged the fallout, saying the break was “hurtful.”

However, Greene insists that her identity and purpose remain grounded in faith, not politics.

“My heart remains filled with joy, my life is filled with happiness, and my true convictions remain unchanged because my self-worth is not defined by a man, but instead by God who created everything in existence,” she wrote.

Greene said her final day in office will be January 5, 2026, and that she is “going back to the people I love.”

Her departure will trigger a special election in Georgia’s deep-red 14th Congressional District, which the Cook Political Report rates as “Solid R.”
