Marjorie Taylor Greene ‘Swatted’ in Georgia

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) was the victim of a “swatting” hoax in Georgia, the congresswoman has just announced.

Greene posted on social media today that she was “swatted” in the middle of the night at around 1 am.

A “swatting” hoax causes armed law enforcement to descend on a property under the assumption that there’s an emergency situation.

“Last night, I was swatted just after 1 am,” she said on Twitter.

“I can’t express enough gratitude to my local law enforcement here in Rome, Floyd County.

“More details to come,” she added.

According to Fox5, “Swatting is the act of making a hoax call to 911 to try and draw responses from law enforcement.

“Suspects can use technology to make it appear that the emergency call is coming from the victim’s phone and the situations it leads to can be deadly.”

It often turns deadly because law enforcement often thinks there is a person holed up inside with a firearm and they have in the past burst in on an unsuspecting person.

Wikipedia says:

“Swatting is a criminal harassment tactic of deceiving an emergency service (via such means as hoaxing an emergency services dispatcher) into sending a police or emergency service response team to another person’s address.

“This is triggered by false reporting of a serious law enforcement emergency, such as a bomb threat, murder, hostage situation, or a false report of a mental health emergency, such as reporting that a person is allegedly suicidal or homicidal and may or may not be armed, among other things.”

Thankfully law enforcement recognized it was Greene’s house or were otherwise not convinced it was a real emergency.

Had the SWAT team descended on her home, it could have had fatal consequences.

Former gubernatorial candidate Kandiss Taylor was also a victim of swatting.

She said it was “traumatizing.”

“I don’t care what political party you are – this is evil.

“This is not OK.

“And I will find out who swatted my house.

“And I will do everything in my power to bring them to justice.”
