Media Outlets That Vilified Ashli Babbitt Are Now Glorifying Woman Shot by ICE in Minneapolis

A 37-year-old Colorado native was fatally shot in Minneapolis on Wednesday after apparently attempting to ram a federal agent with her SUV during an immigration enforcement operation.

Renee Nicole Macklin Good’s death, and the moments leading up to it, were captured on video from multiple angles.

The footage shows Good’s vehicle positioned to block traffic amid a federal operation, ignoring repeated commands from law enforcement to exit the SUV.

She can then be seen accelerating directly toward a federal agent.

The agent then drew his weapon and opened fire.

The facts are clear and uncomfortable for the corporate media narrative that immediately followed.

“You can accept that this woman’s death is a tragedy while acknowledging it’s a tragedy of her own making,” Vice President JD Vance noted after reviewing the available evidence.

Yet within hours, legacy media outlets began constructing a sympathetic portrait of Good while downplaying the actions that led to her death.

The Associated Press published an article titled, “Woman killed by ICE agent in Minneapolis was a mother of 3, poet and new to the city.”

Notably, the report does not mention that Good attempted to ram a federal agent until the eighth paragraph, and even then, it frames that detail as merely how “Trump administration officials painted” the incident.

Before acknowledging why Good was shot, the article emphasized her personal identity, noting she was a U.S. citizen from Colorado, had no criminal record beyond a traffic ticket, and described herself on social media as a “poet and writer and wife and mom.”

The AP highlighted pride flag emojis on her Instagram account, a Pinterest photo of her holding a child, and posts about tattoos and home décor.

Only after presenting Good as a cultural archetype of innocence did the article concede that she drove toward a federal agent.

The contrast with how the same outlet covered the death of Ashli Babbitt in January 2021 could not be starker.

In that case, the AP led by accusing Babbitt of spreading “false allegations” online, focusing on her political views while minimizing her service as an Air Force veteran who deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq.

Her social media posts were described as “profane” and “unsubstantiated,” with little effort made to humanize her.

On her social media profiles, Babbitt described herself as a “patriot” and a “veteran,” details that we omitted in corporate media coverage.

NBC News followed the same double standard.

An NBC headline on January 7, 2021, read: “Woman killed in Capitol was Trump supporter who embraced conspiracy theories.”

By contrast, its headline this week described Good as a resident who was “out caring for her neighbors.”

Vice President JD Vance addressed the incident bluntly.

“You can accept that this woman’s death is a tragedy while acknowledging it’s a tragedy of her own making,” Vance said Wednesday.

“Don’t illegally interfere in federal law enforcement operations and try to run over our officers with your car.

“It’s really that simple.”

While Democrats and media allies continued portraying Good as a martyr, President Donald Trump and Republicans defended the actions of federal agents.

“I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“It is a horrible thing to watch.

“The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defense.”

The disparity in coverage underscores a familiar pattern: when violence is directed at federal officers enforcing immigration law, the media searches for excuses. When the victim aligns with conservative politics, scrutiny turns ruthless.

As many have noted, the same media outlets pushing these double standards are the ones convincing the public that interfering with the duties of federal authorities is acceptable and somehow noble.

The facts of this case, captured on video, remain unchanged, regardless of how aggressively legacy outlets attempt to rewrite them.
