Merrick Garlands Deals Massive Blow to Biden, Appoints Special Counsel to Investigate Handling of Classified Documents

Attorney General Merrick Garland has just dealt a massive blow to Joe Biden by announcing that he’s appointing a special counsel to investigate classified documents that were found in the Democrat president’s private office and home.

Garland appointed former U.S. Attorney Robert Hur as special counsel to oversee the investigation, the AG said Thursday.

Garland admitted that the move is the only action to take that is in the “public interest.”

A senior Justice Department official told ABC News: “This is not a decision Garland made lightly but the regulations could not be more clear that based on the facts that resulted from U.S.Attorney Lausch’s initial investigation an appointment of a special counsel in this manner is required.

“This is a textbook case of what is required under the regulations.”

According to CBS News:

Robert Hur, the former top federal prosecutor in Maryland, will serve as the special counsel overseeing the review of the documents, which date back to the Obama administration.

Hur served as the U.S. attorney during the Trump administration and is the second special counsel appointed to oversee an investigation into sensitive documents found after the end of a presidential administration, along with Jack Smith, who was tapped to take over the probe into former President Donald Trump’s handling of sensitive government documents.

Biden’s lawyers issued a statement that said:

“As we stated, previously, we are fully cooperating with the national archives and the Department of Justice in a process to ensure that any Obama-Biden administration records are appropriately in possession of the archives.

“Following this discovery of government documents at the Penn Biden Center in, November 2022, and coordinating closely with the Department of Justice, the president’s lawyers have searched the president, Wilmington, and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware residences, the other locations where files from this presidential office might have been shipped in the course of the 2017 transition.

“The lawyers completed the review last night.

“During the review, the lawyers discovered among personal and political papers a small number of additional Obama-Biden administration records with classified markings.

“All but one of these documents were found in the storage space in the President’s Wilmington residence garage.

“One document consisting of one page was discovered among store materials in an adjacent room.

“No documents were found in the middle of the Rehoboth beach house residence.

“As was done in the case of the Biden-Penn center, the Department of Justice was immediately notified and the lawyers arranged for the Department of Justice to take possession of these documents.

“The White House will continue to cooperate with the review by the Department of Justice.”
