Filmmaker Michael Moore is calling for a rewrite of the Pledge of Allegiance that leans into left-wing ideology in an effort to unite Americans against President Donald Trump.
Moore sparked controversy by rewriting the Pledge in what he describes as a call to resist Trump and his supporters, whom he refers to as “MAGA-heads.”
Published Monday on his Substack blog, Moore’s version of the Pledge strips away traditional American symbolism and reframes the nation through a far-left ideological lens:
“I pledge allegiance to the people of the United States of America,” Moore wrote.
“And to the democracy for which we all stand: One person, one vote, one nation, part of one world, everyone!
“A seat at the table! Everyone! A slice of the pie!
“With liberty and justice, equality, and kindness and the pursuit of happiness for all.”
Moore made no effort to hide his political agenda.
His stated purpose behind the rewritten pledge is to rally opposition to Trump and the America First movement.
“For the people and for the country that deep down — in spite of its MAGA-heads, in spite of its insanity — we’ve decided to fight for its survival,” he said.
“Holding onto a belief that we can make it better, that we can fix it, that we can end the madness and create a true Democracy for which it stands.”
This rhetoric continues Moore’s long history of vilifying conservatives, particularly those aligned with Trump and populist Republican policies.
After publishing his pledge, Moore called his readers to action, urging them to engage in daily political activism, no matter how small.
“Our hearts do not go more than a second without creating a beat,” Moore wrote.
“Our lungs do not skip more than 3 seconds without taking a breath.
“Can we all, all of us, together, pledge to not skip a day right now without taking some simple sort of political action?”
He encouraged readers to contact elected officials, join local progressive groups, or make protest signs.
He continued by suggesting that passivity was equivalent to complicity.
This isn’t the first time Moore has taken aim at America’s foundational structures.
In 2022, he called for a repeal of the Second Amendment.
Instead, he proposed a new 28th Amendment that would effectively ban firearms nationwide:
“The inalienable right of a free people to be kept safe from gun violence and the fear thereof must not be infringed,” he wrote at the time.
“This Amendment thus repeals and replaces the Second Amendment.”
Critics argue Moore’s efforts represent an ongoing attempt by left-wing elites to redefine American values while dismissing millions of Americans who support Trump, traditional institutions, or constitutional rights.
Moore’s latest “pledge” is less about unity and more about political warfare.
For millions of Americans, the original Pledge of Allegiance still stands—for country, for flag, and for the Constitution.
Moore’s version serves as a stark reminder of just how deep the ideological divide has become.
