The 22-year-old daughter of Minnesota Republican gubernatorial candidate Jeff Johnson has been found stabbed to death.
Hallie Marie Tobler was allegedly killed by her husband on Saturday.
Police described the death as an apparent botched murder-suicide.
Officers with the St. Cloud Police Department responded to a residence in the 3100 block of 40th Avenue South at approximately 8:20 p.m. for what was initially reported as a “medical emergency.”
At the scene, officers located a 22-year-old woman, later identified as Tobler.
First responders said she was suffering from “multiple wounds.”
A 23-year-old man was also found with what investigators believe were self-inflicted stab wounds.
The man was identified as Dylan Michael Tobler, the victim’s husband.
Hallie Tobler was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Dylan Tobler was taken to St. Cloud Hospital, where he was listed in “stable condition,” according to police.
Authorities said he is now in the custody of the St. Cloud Police Department and will be transferred to the Stearns County Jail.
Tobler will be held on charges related to the homicide.
Political Leaders Respond
The Minnesota Republican Party said it was “heartbroken” by the killing.
In a statement, the Minnesota Republican Party said:
“There are no words that can adequately express the sorrow we feel for Jeff and his family.
“The loss of a child is unimaginable, and our thoughts and prayers are with them as they grieve this devastating tragedy.”
Johnson’s campaign page appeared to have been taken down by Tuesday morning.
Party officials also confirmed that Johnson has suspended his campaign out of “respect for his family and the enormity of this loss.”
Investigation Ongoing
Police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing as the investigation continues.
Authorities have indicated the case is being treated as a homicide connected to an apparent failed murder-suicide attempt.
