MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace: ‘I Don’t Think Any Democrat Has’ Compared Trump to Hitler

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace claimed Monday that no Democrat has ever compared President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler.

She made the claims despite a long record of prominent Democrats and media figures, including Wallace herself, doing exactly that.

Wallace made the remarks during her “The Best People” podcast while interviewing Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.

The Democrat governor had recently likened U.S. immigration enforcement to Nazi tactics during World War II.

Pritzker, who is Jewish, said he doesn’t make such comparisons lightly, recalling his work helping a Holocaust survivor establish a museum.

He argued that while he doesn’t believe the Holocaust could repeat in America, Pritzker alleged that those who lived through it “can recognize echoes of authoritarianism” under Trump’s leadership.

Pritzker did not provide any evidence to support these claims, however.

Nevertheless, Wallace praised Pritzker’s comments and expanded on his remarks.

“You put sort of the intellectual architecture behind the parallels that involve all of us,” Wallace said.

“People being asked for their papers, American citizens being asked to show up with papers, street vendors being asked to produce passports, rounding people up, and good people looking the other way, thinking ‘that’s not about me. You know, I’m a citizen.’

“But who do they go after next?”

Pritzker pushed back slightly, attempting to clarify his intent.

“I’m not suggesting, I haven’t suggested Donald Trump is Hitler,” Pritzker said.

Wallace immediately responded:

I don’t think any Democrat has,” she alleged.

“And I actually think it’s a smear that they project back onto critics.

“But JD Vance called Donald Trump ‘cultural heroin.’

“He called him ‘America’s Hitler.’

“I mean, the attacks on Donald Trump as a fascist came from three generals who worked for him.”

However, Wallace’s claim quickly unraveled under scrutiny.

The Record: Democrats Have Compared Trump to Hitler Repeatedly

Despite Wallace’s assertion, many high-profile Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC), Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), and Beto O’Rourke, have explicitly likened Trump to the Nazi dictator.

Wallace herself has also made similar comments on-air.

In 2018, after Trump told a rally crowd he was proud to call himself a “nationalist,” Wallace responded on MSNBC:

“I watch enough History Channel to know that they cheered at Hitler, too.”

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made the comparison again in November 2023 on “The View.”

“Hitler was duly elected,” Clinton warned.

“All of a sudden, somebody with those tendencies, dictatorial, authoritarian tendencies, would be like ‘OK, we’re gonna shut this down, we’re gonna throw these people in jail.’ …

“Trump is telling us what he intends to do.”

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has also called Trump “Temu Hitler,” describing him as a “cheap, low-quality imitation” of the dictator, a remark she only doubled down on even after widespread backlash.

Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) has compared Trump to Hitler on numerous occasions, going back to the president’s first term.

“I can only equate one period of time with what we experience now,” Clyburn said, “and that was what was going on in Germany around 1934.”

When pressed by Fox News host Neil Cavuto about whether he was “envisioning another Hitler,” Clyburn replied:

“That’s exactly what I’m saying. I said the 1930s in Germany!”

Beto O’Rourke also repeatedly invoked Hitler in describing Trump’s leadership

Speaking on California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s podcast in 2023, O’Rourke said:

“It’s the way, you know, you and I when we were in school, we’re looking at the people in Germany in 1933.

“That guy’s named chancellor in January of that year.

“In 53 days, he has destroyed German democracy.”

Wallace’s Own Comparisons

Wallace’s 2018 remark comparing Trump supporters to Nazi rally-goers is far from isolated.

Over the years, she has frequently hosted guests who invoked Hitler or Nazi Germany in discussions about Trump, often without pushback.

Yet on Monday, Wallace claimed such parallels were not coming from Democrats, but rather “a smear” projected onto them.

That revision conflicts with the record of her own network and party allies, who have routinely used Nazi analogies to describe Trump’s rhetoric, policies, and supporters since 2016.

Even liberal filmmaker Michael Moore used Hitler footage in his 2018 documentary Fahrenheit 11/9 to compare Trump rallies to Nazi propaganda events.

“Hitler and Trump are not the same thing,” Moore said afterward.

“But you are making a foolish mistake if you do not at least take a look at history and the patterns of history.”

A Familiar Pattern

The contradiction underscores a familiar dynamic: Democrats and media figures frequently use historical analogies to paint Trump as authoritarian, then deny doing so when challenged.

While Wallace insists “no Democrat” has ever made such comparisons, the record suggests otherwise.

In many cases, the evidence comes from her own broadcast archives.
