Authorities confirmed Friday that several people were killed and nearly 20 others remain unaccounted for following a massive explosion at a Tennessee explosives manufacturing facility.
The blast ripped through the Accurate Energetic Systems plant near Bucksnort, along the Hickman-Humphreys county line west of Nashville.
The incident occurred just before 8 a.m. local time.
Humphreys County Emergency Management Director Odell Poyner said 19 employees were inside the building at the time of the explosion.
However, none have yet been located.
Several others have been hospitalized.
Search And Rescue Underway
Officials warned that the risk of a secondary explosion remains the chief concern as first responders continue their search.
The incident occurred close to the facility’s regular shift change, meaning more employees could have been arriving or leaving the site when the blast occurred.
The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is assisting in the investigation.
The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) said it has deployed district coordinators to support local response efforts.
The Hickman County Sheriff’s Office has urged residents to avoid the area.
An aerial video shows several charred vehicles amid widespread debris and damage at the site.
The building itself appears to be completely destroyed.
