NATO Chief Praises Trump’s Handling of Iran: ‘Widespread Support for What the President Is Doing’

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte voiced unequivocal support Monday for President Donald Trump’s military strikes on Iran, declaring that America’s allies stand united as Tehran escalates missile retaliation across the region.

“There is no sliver of light between us,” Rutte said during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.”

“The Europeans, Canada, Mark Carney, the United States, the American president… All for one, one for all, because everybody supports, here in Europe, the fact that [Ayatollah Ali] Khamenei is gone, that the nuclear capability is gone, that the ballistic missile program has been now degraded,” he said.

Khamenei’s regime “was a big threat for Europe, for Israel, for the whole region,” he noted.

Rutte described the dismantling of Iran’s leadership and military capabilities as “crucial.”

The NATO chief praised President Trump’s decisive action in eliminating Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and degrading the regime’s missile infrastructure.

Europe ‘Stepping Up’

Rutte said he personally spoke with key European leaders over the weekend.

He revealed that he found broad support for the U.S.-led operation.

“And what I see in Europe — I spoke with all the key European leaders over the weekend — is widespread support for what the president is doing, and also making sure that when it comes to logistics, access, defending key U.S. interests in Europe and in the region, the Europeans are really stepping up.”

Rutte specifically pointed to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

“When you look, for example, at Friedrich Merz, the German Chancellor, he is now traveling to Washington for meetings tomorrow with President Trump,” Rutte said.

“He has made the best type of comments over the last couple of days.

“I really think he is completely supportive of what is happening.”

He also cited backing from France and the United Kingdom.

“You see the same from France when it comes to all the help they are giving, and also from the UK,” he continued.

“The problem with the UK was legal for these defensive operations.”

Rutte acknowledged Britain initially hesitated to provide base access for U.S. operations.

The UK government cited legal concerns before giving the green light.

“They needed the legal case to be solid,” he said.

“So last night they came around.

“I think that’s important.”

Missile Retaliation From Tehran

Rutte’s remarks came as Iran launched missiles toward military and civilian targets in Israel and Gulf nations following the initial strikes under Operation Epic Fury.

According to a report from French newspaper Le Monde, European leaders reacted with “extreme caution” immediately after the strikes began Saturday.

However, their tone reportedly shifted following Tehran’s regional counteroffensive, culminating in a joint statement warning they would not stand by in the face of further “indiscriminate” attacks.

Rutte has now confirmed that NATO’s core allies are aligned with President Trump’s strategy.

As the conflict unfolds, the NATO chief’s public declaration of unity sends a signal that the alliance stands firmly behind the United States and Israel.

It comes as Trump confronts what Rutte described as a major threat to Europe, Israel, and regional stability.
