New York Times: George Soros Under DOJ Investigation

The Department of Justice has directed multiple U.S. attorneys’ offices to begin drafting potential criminal cases against George Soros and the liberal billionaire’s Open Society Foundations, according to a memo obtained by The New York Times.

The Times reported that a “senior Justice Department official” sent instructions to more than a half-dozen federal prosecutors’ offices, including those in California, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Detroit, and Maryland, among others.

The directive listed possible charges ranging from racketeering and wire fraud to arson and providing material support for terrorism.

As Slay News previously reported, President Donald Trump had suggested that Soros was under investigation over his role in funding violent leftist groups.

Trump warned that Soros and his network are facing racketeering charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

Speaking on “Fox & Friends” earlier this month, Trump tied the probe directly to the wave of violent unrest gripping the country.

“We’re going to look into Soros because I think it’s a RICO case against him and other people because this is more than like protests,” Trump said.

“This is real agitation,” the president noted.

“This is riots on the street.”

The memo obtained by the Times, reportedly authored by DOJ lawyer Aakash Singh in the office of Deputy Todd Blanche, cited research from the Capital Research Center.

The watchdog group tracks left-wing political funding.

Singh requested that prosecutors determine if the allegations justified opening criminal cases.

The directive from Singh reportedly included claims that Soros’s foundation provided funding to an organization described as a front group for terrorism.

Soros, a billionaire megadonor to Democrats and leftist groups, has long been viewed as the central financier behind progressive organizations and activist networks in the United States.

The Open Society Foundations, his flagship network, distributes billions globally to left-wing initiatives.

Despite the seriousness of the potential charges, the Times framed the DOJ’s move as a political vendetta.

The paper described the investigation as part of a broader effort targeting “Mr. Trump’s perceived enemies.”

However, critics blasted this description as dismissive, given Soros’s well-documented role in funding efforts to undermine Trump and Republicans.

The Times further suggested the move represented “a major break from decades of past practice meant to insulate the Justice Department from political interference.”

Conservatives were quick to note the irony, given the years of lawfare waged against Trump since 2020.

The report also noted that New York Attorney General Letitia James, who led high-profile prosecutions against Trump, was among those described as an “enemy” of the president in DOJ discussions.

Trump himself has been explicit about Soros.

In August, he posted on social media that the left-wing billionaire “should be charged with violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.”

The Soros investigation comes as speculation grows that former FBI Director James Comey could soon face an indictment, raising the prospect that the Trump administration’s DOJ is prepared to aggressively pursue accountability against those who targeted him during and after his presidency.

For now, the Times reports, prosecutors are reviewing whether the allegations against Soros’s sprawling network are sufficient to justify criminal cases.

If pursued, the case could mark the most significant legal challenge yet for one of the Left’s most powerful financiers.
