Obama Judge Releases 4 Dangerous Illegal Aliens from ICE Custody

A Democrat-aligned federal judge in Louisiana ordered the release of four dangerous illegal aliens with serious criminal records, sparking outrage from federal officials who warned the decision could endanger American lives.

The illegals were put back on the streets despite convictions for charges including murder and child sex crimes.

On Feb. 6, Judge John deGravelles, an appointee of former President Barack Obama serving on the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana, granted the defendants’ release from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.

The alarm descon was revealed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin issued a blunt warning about the consequences.

“The ramifications will only be the continued rape, murder, assault, and robbery of more American victims,” McLaughlin said.

“Releasing these monsters is inexcusably reckless.

“President Donald Trump and Secretary Noem are now enforcing the law and arresting illegal aliens who have no right to be in our country.”

She added:

“We are applying the law as written.

“If an immigration judge finds an illegal alien has no right to be in this country, we are going to remove them. Period.”

Violent Criminal Histories

Federal officials identified the four individuals released from ICE custody:

  • Ibrahim Ali Mohammed, an Ethiopian national convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor. An immigration judge issued a final removal order on Sept. 5, 2024. He had previously been released into the United States under the Biden administration.

  • Luis Gaston-Sanchez, a Cuban national with convictions for homicide, assault, resisting an officer, concealing stolen property, and two counts of robbery. He received a deportation order on Sept. 24, 2001.

  • Ricardo Blanco Chomat, also from Cuba, was convicted of homicide, kidnapping, aggravated assault with a firearm, burglary, robbery, larceny, and selling cocaine. His deportation order was issued on March 27, 2002.

  • Francisco Rodriguez-Romero, previously convicted of homicide and a weapons offense, was ordered deported on May 30, 1995.

Despite those records and longstanding removal orders, the judge’s ruling resulted in their release from federal immigration detention.

Trump Administration Expands Detention Capacity

The decision comes as the Trump administration intensifies immigration enforcement and expands detention infrastructure for criminal illegal aliens.

In September 2025, DHS announced a partnership with the state of Louisiana to increase ICE detention capacity at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, commonly known as Angola Prison.

The facility, referred to as the “Louisiana Lockup,” houses some of the criminal illegal immigrants arrested by ICE.

Federal officials say the contrast is stark.

While the administration moves to detain and remove violent offenders who entered the country illegally, judicial rulings like the one issued in Louisiana threaten to return dangerous criminals to American communities.

The clash highlights the broader national battle over immigration enforcement, public safety, and whether courts or the executive branch will ultimately determine how aggressively the law is applied.
