Former President Barack Obama came under fire Thursday after releasing a statement about the historic Israel-Hamas peace deal.
However, Obama’s statement conspicuously failed to mention President Donald Trump, who brokered the agreement.
Obama posted on X that the ceasefire was a cause for “encouragement and relief.”
Yet, he credited neither Trump nor his administration for pushing the historic first phase of the peace deal across the finish line.
“After two years of unimaginable loss and suffering for Israeli families and the people of Gaza, we should all be encouraged and relieved that an end to the conflict is within sight; that those hostages still being held will be reunited with their families; and that vital aid can start reaching those inside Gaza whose lives have been shattered,” Obama wrote.
He added that the “hard task” of rebuilding Gaza and committing to a lasting peace now falls to “Israelis and Palestinians, with the support of the U.S. and the entire world community.”

The omission of Trump’s name immediately drew backlash.
Trump has spent months applying direct pressure to both sides and unveiled a 20-point peace plan last week.
Conservatives Call Out Obama
Donald Trump Jr. responded bluntly on X: “I’ll finish it for you. ‘Thank you, Donald Trump.’”
Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) said the former president’s silence revealed more about his own legacy than about Trump’s accomplishments:
“He couldn’t even utter Trump’s name.
“Obama was the most divisive President in modern American history, and even in a moment of great accomplishment and peace, he couldn’t be a unifier. Sad.”
Trump’s Peace Push
The war began under Joe Biden’s presidency when Hamas launched its October 7, 2023, terror attack on Israel.
Hamas terrorists murdered 1,200 people, kidnapping and raping hundreds more.
After being sworn in for his second term in January, President Trump began driving negotiations.
Last week, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he unveiled a sweeping peace framework and issued an ultimatum to Hamas to agree or face “all HELL.”
Days later, the terror group agreed to the terms.
On Thursday, the ceasefire officially took effect following approval from Israel’s government.
The first phase of the agreement requires Hamas to release all remaining hostages.
In exchange, Israel is expected to release hundreds of Hamas prisoners, including convicted terrorists, and begin withdrawing troops from central Gaza.
Trump called the breakthrough “a historic step toward peace in the Middle East.”
