Pelosi Defends Virginia Democrat Who Wished Death on Republicans: ‘He Has Apologized’

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stumbled badly when pressed on CNN about a Democrat candidate’s shocking text message suggesting a Republican leader should be shot in the head.

Virginia attorney general nominee Jay Jones, a Democrat, has been engulfed in scandal after texts surfaced revealing his violent fantasies.

In the texts, Jones said the GOP Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates should get “two bullets to the head” for honoring a late moderate Democrat.

The disturbing comment has rocked the race and left top Democrats struggling to respond.

Pelosi, speaking with CNN’s Dana Bash, sidestepped the question of whether Jones should drop out of the race.

She appeared to defend Jones by arguing that he had apologized.

However, she then claimed that such threats are “just not appropriate” when directed at herself and other Democrats after defending Jones’s use of threatening language.

“Well, that’s up to the people, the leaders in Virginia,” Pelosi said.

“They have said he has apologized.”

When pressed further, Pelosi shifted to her own grievances, claiming she had also faced violent threats.

“I wish there would be enough fuss of all the times that people have said they were gonna put a bullet in my head right in public, in the public domain,” she said.

“We have to get rid of that kind of language,” Pelosi added.

“I mean, it’s just not appropriate.”

Pelosi insisted Jones had apologized and suggested Democrat leaders still view him as the “better person to be attorney general.”

Republicans Slam Pelosi’s Evasion

The Republican National Committee (RNC) immediately blasted Pelosi’s response.

The RNC posted a video of the interview on X and called her “SPINELESS” for refusing to condemn Jones or call on him to withdraw.

Bash pushed again, asking Pelosi if Virginia’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger should demand Jones step aside.

Pelosi again deflected.

“She has to do what she has to do,” Pelosi replied.

“She’s going to be governor.

“She’s running very well.

Democrats’ Double Standard

Pelosi’s refusal to demand accountability stands in stark contrast to Democrats’ repeated calls for Republicans to condemn and expel members over rhetoric they deem offensive.

While Democrats often demand zero tolerance for Republicans, Pelosi suggested Democrats can “balance” violent rhetoric if they believe their candidate is “the better person.”

Jones has apologized, but the controversy has already handed Republicans a major talking point about Democrat hypocrisy on political violence.
