At Least 10 People Dead After School Shooting in Austria

Several people have been killed in a school shooting in Austria on Tuesday, officials confirmed.

Emergency units, including special forces, rushed to BORG Dreierschützengasse high school around 10 a.m. local time after gunfire rang out.

Police quickly secured the scene and evacuated students to a safe location.

Graz Mayor Elke Kahr called it a “terrible tragedy.”

The European Union, meanwhile, issued official condolences.

Police said in a statement:

“A large-scale police operation has been underway in Dreierschützengasse since approximately 10 a.m.

“According to initial findings, shots were heard in a school.

“The public is urged to avoid this area and follow the instructions of the security forces on site.”

The police later stated on X that the situation was “secured” and there was no longer believed to be any danger.

Local media reported the gunman was found dead in one of the school bathrooms.
