Authorities in Alabama are investigating the deaths of former WBRC 6 sports reporter Christina Chambers and her husband, Johnny Rimes, after the couple was found dead with gunshot wounds inside their Hoover home on Tuesday morning.
Police say the incident appears to be a murder–suicide.
Officers responded around 9 a.m. after a family member called 911 and found Chambers and Rimes unresponsive.
Their 3-year-old child was discovered inside the residence but unharmed, according to the Hoover Police Department.
Both adults were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the case is still in its early stages, but emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Chambers joined WBRC 6 in 2015 and became a fixture of the station’s “Sideline” program, providing on-field reporting and anchoring extended sports coverage.
She left her full-time role in 2021 to pursue teaching but continued freelancing with the station during the 2025 football season.
Chambers later taught broadcast journalism at Thompson High School, where she earned the 2024 Advisor of the Year award from the Alabama Scholastic Press Association.
Her students went on to receive several major honors, including the Alex House Journalism Sustainability Award, a SkillsUSA State Championship in Broadcast News, and two All-Alabama Overall Broadcast Awards.
Alabaster City Schools Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers said:
“As a beloved member of the Warrior Nation Network, Christina brought her deep knowledge and love of sports reporting to Friday nights, leaving a lasting impression on students, colleagues, and viewers alike.
“She was a cherished part of the Warrior family, and we extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all who are grieving this profound loss.”
Most recently, Chambers worked in corporate communications at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
“We are deeply saddened by this horrific tragedy, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to Christina’s family during this extremely difficult time,” a BCBS spokesperson said.
“She was a cherished colleague whose warmth and loving personality touched everyone she worked with.
“Christina was a source of joy and inspiration to our team and company — she will be greatly missed.”
Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) also responded to the news, writing on X: “Tragic news.
“Please join me in keeping Christina’s friends, family, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.
“I’m also praying for the entire [WBRC 6 News] team as they mourn the loss of a former colleague and friend.”
Former colleagues at WBRC 6 remembered Chambers as a dedicated professional and devoted mother.
“She was one of the sweetest, most loving people that I know,” anchor Jeh Jeh Pruitt said.
“She was relentless with running, loving her son, and loving life.
“I am glad I got a chance to hug and tell her I love her a week ago at the Super 7.
“I am so sorry for her family, the Chambers and Thompson Families, and her WBRC Family.”
Police say updates will be released as the investigation continues.
