An anti-Trump, award-winning senior Washington Post editor has been arrested for stomach-churning crimes against children.
48-year-old Thomas Pham LeGro, who once received a Pulitzer Prize for reporting on Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore, has been arrested on federal charges of possessing child pornography.
LeGro was taken into custody Thursday following a raid on his Washington, D.C., home.
Federal prosecutors say LeGro’s work laptop contained a folder with at least 11 videos depicting child sexual abuse.
He made his first appearance in U.S. District Court on Friday.
LeGro is a prominent figure in the corporate media.
He previously bragged in his Washington Post bio about his role in the paper’s coverage of Roy Moore’s 2017 Senate campaign in Alabama.
That reporting, which included allegations of Moore’s inappropriate interest in teenage girls in the 1970s, helped sink the GOP candidate’s run and earned the paper a Pulitzer Prize.
“In 2018, Tom LeGro was part of a team of Post reporters who were awarded a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the Senate candidacy of Roy Moore and a subsequent effort to discredit The Post’s reporting,” his now-deleted bio read.
LeGro went on to oversee multiple high-profile teams at the Post, including Politics, National, International, and Technology, before being promoted to executive producer in 2021.
The irony is hard to ignore: the same journalist who helped torpedo a Republican Senate hopeful over decades-old allegations is now facing serious federal charges himself involving actual child exploitation material.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the FBI Washington Field Office’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force executed a search warrant at LeGro’s residence on June 26.

During the search, agents discovered his laptop and a folder containing 11 videos classified as child sexual abuse material.
They also reportedly found what appeared to be broken pieces of a hard drive dumped in a hallway near the room where the laptop was seized.
Agents discovered “broken pieces of a hard drive in the hallway outside the room where Mr LeGro’s work laptop was found.”
The FBI noted that the broken hard drive was an apparent attempt by LeGro to destroy evidence.
“This is the type of case that shocks the conscience,” said U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro in a statement announcing the charges.
“Our office is committed to aggressively prosecuting those who harm or exploit children, no matter who they are or where they work.”
The FBI wrote that LeGro was linked to an account identified in 2005 “as part of an investigation into E-Gold, a payment company used by child pornography websites.”

The case is being led by the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.
The team includes agents and detectives from Virginia and D.C. who specialize in cracking down on crimes involving children.
So far, neither LeGro nor the Washington Post has issued a public statement.
LeGro’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the media world.
It raises serious questions about how a senior newsroom leader at one of the most influential outlets in the country could allegedly engage in such depraved criminal activity under the radar.
Critics argue it’s another black eye for legacy journalism, already viewed by many conservatives as politically biased and morally compromised.
As the investigation unfolds, it’s clear this story is far from over.
The full extent of LeGro’s actions may still be coming to light.
