Republicans in the House are turning up the heat on the Democrats with a new resolution that demands answers about what many see as a deliberate “cover-up” surrounding former President Joe Biden’s “cognitive and physical decline” during his presidency.
Introduced by Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA), the measure calls for the creation of a select committee to investigate what the congressman describes as efforts to hide the true condition of the former president, including his recently revealed cancer diagnosis.
The resolution doesn’t hold back, placing a spotlight on high-profile figures such as former Vice President Kamala Harris and former First Lady Jill Biden.
Republicans are questioning whether they helped withhold critical health information from the American people.
In a statement, Carter said:
“This is potentially the biggest political scandal of our lifetime, and the American people deserve to know the truth about who was really running the White House under Biden’s tenure as president.”
The proposal outlines a 13-member investigative panel, with five members selected in consultation with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) would designate one of the members as the chairman.
The committee chair would have subpoena power.
Beyond Biden’s personal health issues, the proposed committee would also take aim at the corporate media.
The resolution accuses the Democrat-aligned media of helping to push a false narrative surrounding Biden’s fitness to serve.
The panel would be charged with probing the “role of fake news media and legacy outlets in spreading false or misleading narratives” on Biden’s condition and actions while in office.
Those actions include the use of an autopen to sign official documents, such as pardons for his own family members.
Carter is clear about what’s at stake:
“From using the autopen to pardon his own family members to likely concealing a cancer diagnosis, our government must restore trust with the public by fully investigating the former administration’s lies and getting to the bottom of one of the most consequential coverups in history.”
The panel would also examine Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.
In addition, the panel would probe the “existence, content, and suppression” of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s audio recordings related to his investigation into Biden.
If approved, the committee would be expected to submit a final report with its findings and recommendations by December 31, 2025.
Initial co-sponsors backing Carter’s resolution include Reps. Mark Alford (R-MO), John Rose (R-TN), Derrick Van Orden (R-WI), and Barry Moore (R-AL).
This push comes as the House Oversight Committee, led by Rep. James Comer (R-KY), is also looking into potential efforts to keep Biden’s health issues under wraps.
Comer has already demanded testimony from Biden’s doctor and former White House staff.
In a Fox News interview, Comer revealed that the former First Lady Jill Biden, Hunter Biden, as well as former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, could be called in and subpoenaed if they refuse to agree to testify.
“If the trail leads us to the next step, which many believe would be perhaps Jill Biden and Hunter Biden, then we will go there,” Comer stated.
