Hollywood actor Robert De Niro led a “State of the Swamp” rally Tuesday evening, calling on Americans to “take to the streets” in opposition to President Donald Trump.
Speaking after President Trump’s State of the Union address, the longtime Trump critic said he feels betrayed by the country.
“The bottom line is that I feel betrayed by my country,” the anti-Trump multi-millionaire said.
“It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does need to return to the values that gave us our strength and humanity.”
The “Raging Bull” star escalated his rhetoric as the rally continued.
“If you want our leaders to be accountable, if you’re devoted to the Constitution and the rule of law, if you want the United States of America to be worthy of your love, be ready to take to the streets together, and we will take our country back,” De Niro said.
Attacks on President Trump
De Niro also referenced an event “five months ago” involving late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, who was briefly taken off the air after spreading false claims about the assassination of Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk.
“We the people must never accept government threats to our freedom of speech,” De Niro said.
Notably, De Niro did not reference the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, an event that shook conservative communities nationwide.
“Our country isn’t so lovable right now,” De Niro continued, adding, “In the current climate, declaring love for our country is like an abused spouse professing love for their abuser.”
He went on to claim, “Tragically, we are now in a country of, by, and for a handful of dishonest, greedy, and cruel authoritarians.”
The actor then accused the Trump administration of being “government thugs.”
De Niro also alleged that President Trump would attempt to “steal” the upcoming midterm elections and described the January 6, 2021, Capitol protest as “just a rehearsal for what’s likely to come.”
“Who is going to stop him?” De Niro said.
“We the people, because we are the only ones who can stop him.
“I’m filled with anger and outrage!”

“Enemy of This Country”
In recent days, De Niro has intensified his criticism of Trump, calling him “the enemy of this country” and urging Americans to “resist.”
“It’s up to us to get rid of him,” De Niro said, referring to Trump, who won the 2024 election in a landslide victory.
He further encouraged Americans to “neutralize” the MAGA movement.
“People are not going to go away — even if Trump dies for some reason, by having an illness or something — part of that movement are still there, and that’s the scary part,” De Niro said.
“It has to be neutralized by the people.”
The rally underscores the continued hostility from Hollywood figures toward President Trump as he advances his second-term agenda and Republicans prepare for upcoming midterm battles.
