Robert De Niro Claims Trump ‘Will Never Leave’ Office When Term Ends: ‘It’s Up to Us to Get Rid of Him’

Actor Robert De Niro is once again claiming that President Donald Trump will refuse to leave office when his second term concludes in 2029, a prediction he has repeated multiple times since the 2024 election.

According to a preview reported by The Wrap, De Niro is set to appear on a podcast hosted by Nicolle Wallace and sponsored by MSNBC, where he reiterates his warning.

“Let’s not kid ourselves,” De Niro says in the preview.

“He will not leave. It’s up to us to get rid of him.”

Wallace reportedly responded by emphasizing that any effort should be “peaceful.”

A Repeated Claim

De Niro has made similar assertions on several occasions over the past two years.

In May 2024, he said:

“Elections? Forget about it.

“That’s over. That’s done.

“If he gets in, I can tell you right now.

“He will never leave. He will never leave.

“You know that. He will never leave.”

In October 2025, he repeated the warning:

“We can’t let up. Cannot let up on him because he is not going to leave the White House.

“He does not want to leave the White House.

“He will not leave the White House.

“Anybody thinks he, oh, he’ll do this, he’ll do that, it’s just deluding themselves.”

Now, in the upcoming podcast appearance, De Niro again asserts:

“He will never leave.

“We have to make him leave.

“He jokes now about nationalizing the elections.

“He’s not joking. We’ve seen enough already.”

Across multiple interviews and public statements, De Niro has not cited specific evidence to support the claim that President Trump intends to disregard constitutional term limits.

Constitutional Framework

However, De Niro’s claim ignores the fact that Trump has previously left the White House without refusing to leave.

President Trump previously lost his 2020 re-election bid and left office in January 2021 following the constitutionally mandated transfer of power.

The Twenty-Second Amendment limits presidents to two terms, and the next scheduled presidential transition would occur in January 2029 at the conclusion of Trump’s current term.

De Niro also referenced polling places during the previewed remarks, stating:

“We have to make sure that, like what he’s trying now, that all the polling places have people that can come there safely.

“That might mean citizens on the other side.”

He did not specify what actions he was referring to or cite particular incidents.

Broader Political Rhetoric

De Niro has been one of President Trump’s most outspoken celebrity critics for years, frequently using public appearances to criticize the president and his policies.

His latest comments come amid heightened political rhetoric surrounding the 2028 election cycle, with some progressive activists expressing concerns about executive authority and election administration.

Supporters of President Trump have dismissed such claims as speculative and unsupported, pointing to constitutional safeguards and established procedures governing presidential transitions.

The podcast episode featuring De Niro is expected to be released on Monday.
