Rubio Slams ‘Dishonest’ Democrats for Linking Him to ‘Fake’ Anti-Trump Russia Hoax

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is doubling down on his condemnation of the baseless allegations that President Donald Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election.

Speaking on “The Brian Kilmeade Show,” Rubio did not hold back.

He called the infamous Trump-Russia “dossier” a “piece of campaign disinformation” funded by the president’s political opponents.

“This dossier was a piece of campaign disinformation,” Rubio asserted Thursday.

“It was paid for by political campaigns.

He continued by calling the entire affair a “huge outrage” that wasted millions of taxpayer dollars on an investigation built on lies.

“It was fake. It was a lie,” Rubio warned.

“And they used it to mislead the American public.

“It cost millions of dollars in investigations, all chasing a hoax,” Rubio added, reflecting frustration over the prolonged probe into what he described as a politically motivated smear campaign.

His remarks came shortly after National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard released documents that allege the Obama administration weaponized intelligence around the 2016 election.

Rubio, who served as the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, confirmed that his own investigation into the matter found “zero, zilch proof” of any coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Yet, some Democrats continue to accuse Rubio of trying to “rewrite” the findings, even though the investigation did acknowledge “Russian meddling” during the election.

In a statement released in 2020, Rubio declared:

“We can say, without any hesitation, that the Committee found absolutely no evidence that then-candidate Donald Trump or his campaign colluded with the Russian government to meddle in the 2016 election.”

While Rubio’s investigation cleared Trump and his campaign of any collusion, it also found “irrefutable evidence of Russian meddling.”

However, Rubio clarified that the finding should not be conflated with Trump’s involvement.

Rubio didn’t hold back in his criticism of Democrat lawmakers who continue to promote the Trump-Russia conspiracy.

He called them “dishonest” and accused them of misrepresenting his findings by linking his remarks about Russia’s actions to the notion that Trump was somehow complicit in them.

Gabbard’s newly declassified documents have already been referred to the Justice Department and FBI for potential criminal investigation.

However, many Democrat lawmakers have been scrambling to dismiss her claims.

Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, labeled Gabbard’s revelations as “weaponizing” intelligence to promote “the president’s election conspiracy theories.”

President Trump weighed in on the issue, calling his predecessor, Barack Obama, the “ringleader” of the Russia investigation.

Meanwhile, Obama’s spokesperson dismissed the claims as “bizarre” and a “weak attempt at distraction.”

Rubio also criticized the media’s lack of interest in reporting on the recent revelations, saying:

“You had some of the highest-level officials in our intelligence agency in the country taking that fake, ridiculous dossier and using it to influence and inform an official intelligence assessment of what happened in this campaign.”

“The media is either uninterested or too lazy to understand those nuances and that reality,” Rubio added, clearly frustrated with the press’s ongoing failure to acknowledge the true nature of the Russia collusion hoax.

On the ongoing war in Ukraine, Rubio indicated that Trump’s patience with Russian President Vladimir Putin is wearing thin.

“What bothers the president the most is he has these great phone calls where everyone sort of claims, you know, we’d like to see this end if we could find a way forward,” Rubio explained.

“Then he turns on the news, and another city’s been bombed.”

Trump has made it clear that he’s setting a 10-day deadline for Putin to agree to a ceasefire deal, warning that if no progress is made, the U.S. will impose harsher sanctions on Russia.

“So far, there’s not been what we feel, at least, sincere interest on the Russian side in achieving that objective,” Rubio said, stressing that Trump’s patience is running out.

“But obviously, the president’s not going to wait forever.”

With the shadow of the Russia collusion hoax still looming over Washington, Rubio and other Republicans are pushing back against the relentless political attack that they argue was nothing more than a desperate attempt to undermine Trump’s legitimacy and distract from the real issues at hand.
