Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy issued a blunt ultimatum that states and cities defying federal immigration law will lose Department of Transportation (DOT) funding.
“The @USDOT will NOT fund rogue state actors who refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement,” Duffy posted on X.
“And to cities that stand by while rioters destroy transportation infrastructure—don’t expect a red cent from DOT, either.
“Follow the law, or forfeit the funding.”

In short: cooperate with ICE, or say goodbye to tax dollars for infrastructure.
The warning is more than political posturing.
Many blue states and major cities are heavily dependent on federal transportation dollars to maintain their collapsing infrastructure.
Duffy’s move could jeopardize billions in taxpayer-funded projects for places that deliberately undermine immigration law through sanctuary policies, DEI mandates, or by issuing driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.
Duffy’s message comes as part of a broader push by President Trump, who over the weekend ordered ICE to launch what he called “the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.”
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has warned that ICE will deport criminal illegal aliens “without apology.”
“Every day, the Brave Men and Women of ICE are subjected to violence, harassment, and even threats from Radical Democrat Politicians,” Trump said Sunday.
“But nothing will stop us from executing our mission.”
Trump went on to issue a directive for ICE to focus on deep blue urban centers like Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City, which he described as Democrat strongholds built on illegal immigration.
“These cities are the core of the Democrat Power Center,” Trump said.
“They use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good-paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens.”
The president ordered his administration to put “every resource possible” behind deportation efforts and end the wave of what he called “Mass Destruction Migration.”
The clampdown comes as anti-ICE riots broke out in Los Angeles, where protesters waving Mexican flags attacked law enforcement, torched vehicles, and vandalized property.
Despite the chaos, ICE agents carried out targeted operations that led to the arrest of violent criminal illegal aliens with charges including:
- Child molestation
- Second-degree murder
- Grand larceny
- Assault with intent to commit rape
- Drug trafficking
While Democrats claim these actions are heartless, Americans are watching their cities collapse under the weight of lawlessness—and they’re demanding action.
This isn’t Duffy’s first warning to sanctuary states, however.
In April, he said DOT funding would be cut off for any state or locality that:
- Issue driver’s licenses to illegal aliens
- Promotes DEI initiatives that discriminate against Americans
- Functions as a sanctuary jurisdiction
“We have what is called ‘follow the law,’” Duffy said.
“So whether it’s DEI—discriminating against Americans—or they’re sanctuary cities or states, if you’re giving licenses to illegals, if you’re pushing woke garbage, we’re not going to fund your projects.”

The message from the Trump administration is clear: If you want federal funds, respect federal law.
No more “sanctuary” perks, no more DEI payouts, and no more taxpayer-funded handouts to cities that shelter criminals while letting their infrastructure burn.
The era of rogue states thumbing their noses at law and order, and expecting American taxpayers to pay for it, is over.
