‘Seditious Six’ Democrat Elissa Slotkin Says She’s Under Federal Investigation for Urging Troops to ‘Refuse Illegal Orders’

Democrat Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) is reportedly the subject of a federal investigation following a controversial video in which she and several other Democrat lawmakers, dubbed the “Seditious Six,” encouraged members of the U.S. military to “refuse illegal orders.”

Slotkin told The New York Times that she learned the investigation was initiated by the office of U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro.

Pirro currently serves as U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia.

According to the Times, Pirro’s office sent an email to the Senate sergeant-at-arms requesting an interview with Slotkin or her private legal counsel.

Slotkin characterized the probe as an abuse of federal power, telling the outlet it reflects an effort by an authoritarian president to intimidate political opponents.

“Facts matter little, but the threat matters quite a bit,” Slotkin said.

“The threat of legal action; the threat to your family; the threat to your staff; the threat to you.”

The investigation centers on a video posted in November that featured Slotkin alongside Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Reps. Chris Deluzio (D-PA), Maggie Goodlander (D-NH), Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), and Jason Crow (D-CO).

All of the lawmakers involved have military or intelligence backgrounds.

The video was widely criticized by Republicans as a call to defy President Donald Trump and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

The Democrats released the video in the context of debates over Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to tackle violent crime in various cities.

Trump responded forcefully at the time, accusing the lawmakers of “seditious behavior” in a series of posts on Truth Social.

“It’s called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL,” the president wrote on November 20.

“Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL.

“Their words cannot be allowed to stand — We won’t have a Country anymore!!!

“An example MUST BE SET.”

Later the same day, Trump added in a separate post, “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!”

The remark sparked widespread backlash and accusations from the Left that the president was issuing a threat.

Slotkin, a former CIA officer who served in Iraq, is the latest participant in the video to face scrutiny from federal authorities.

Kelly, a retired Navy captain and former astronaut, previously sued the War Department and Hegseth after the department moved to demote him and cut his retirement pay over his role in the video.

His lawsuit argues that the administration’s actions violate constitutional protections for legislative independence.

“It appears that never in our nation’s history has the Executive Branch imposed military sanctions on a Member of Congress for engaging in disfavored political speech,” the lawsuit states.

The filing further argues that the Pentagon’s actions “violate numerous constitutional guarantees and have no basis in statute.”

A War Department official confirmed to Fox News that the agency is aware of Kelly’s lawsuit but declined to comment further, citing its policy against discussing ongoing litigation.

Earlier this month, Hegseth escalated the matter by directing Secretary of the Navy John Phelan to review Kelly’s retirement rank and pay and provide a recommendation within 45 days, citing concerns that Kelly made “seditious statements” that undermined military operations.

In response, Kelly said in a post on X that what he described as an “unconstitutional crusade” against him sends a chilling message to retired service members.

“If you speak out and say something that the President or Secretary of Defense doesn’t like,” Kelly wrote, “you will be censured, threatened with demotion, or even prosecuted.”
