‘Seditious Six’ Democrat Mark Kelly Lashes Out at Trump Over Iran: ‘Random People Off the Street’ Could ‘Do a Better Job’

Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) criticized President Donald Trump on Wednesday over the ongoing U.S.-Israel strikes against Iran, claiming that a random group of people “off the street” could handle the situation better than the current administration.

Kelly, one of the “Seditious Six” group of Democrats who urged troops to ignore orders from the president, made the remarks during an interview with Jen Psaki on MS NOW, formerly MSNBC.

“I watch this group of people who are supposed to be leading our country — not just the president, Secretary of Defense and others — you know, five people that were on the background on the slide here, and I’m thinking, you could pick a random group of people off the street tonight here in Washington, D.C. — just a random group — and they could probably do a better job than our government is doing right now with this,” Kelly said.

Kelly Questions Trump’s Leadership

Kelly, a former Navy combat pilot who flew missions during the first Gulf War, referenced a former commander while discussing the seriousness of military decisions.

“You could just feel just in his core that he understood how significant of an issue this was — that some of us might die,” Kelly said.

He claimed that he has concerns about whether President Trump fully understands the responsibilities of the commander-in-chief.

“We have six dead Americans who paid the ultimate price,” Kelly told Psaki.

“And we have a president — and I’m not going to go into things he’s said in the past about the military — but we have a president that I have serious concerns about whether he understands his role here.”

Psaki did not ask Kelly for evidence to support the claims he made against the president.

Trump Administration Highlights Military Success

President Trump announced Saturday that the United States and Israel were striking Iranian targets, and military operations have continued since then.

The Pentagon released a video highlighting the first “100 hours” of Operation Epic Fury, showcasing U.S. military capabilities during the campaign.

According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces are maintaining air superiority and targeting Iranian missile systems.

U.S. forces “control the skies by launching from the sea” and are finding and destroying the Iranian regime’s mobile missile launch capabilities with “lethal precision,” CENTCOM said.

Kelly Criticizes Trump’s Messaging

Kelly also argued that Trump should have discussed the potential military action during his State of the Union address, rather than announcing operations later.

“His ultimate, you know, job is to protect U.S. service members, protect U.S. citizens,” Kelly said.

“He talked about it the night of the State of the Union, but why didn’t he talk more about this?

“I mean, he could have discussed this and tried to explain to the American people how is this going to help them with their cost of rent and groceries and healthcare, which, by the way, he made much, much harder for millions of Americans.”

“This is not helping people with their everyday lives,” he added.

“And he didn’t offer any explanation.

Democrats Warn of ‘Endless War’

Other Democrats have also criticized the administration’s actions.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) is claiming that deeper involvement in the conflict could lead to failure.

“The American people want us to focus on making their life better and making their life more affordable; not getting involved in another endless war in the Middle East that is going to end in failure,” Jeffries said.

“This administration somehow found the resources, has found billions of dollars for bombs but can’t find any money to actually bring down the high cost of living here in the United States of America.”

White House Pushes Back

The Trump administration rejected the criticism and defended both the military operation and the president’s economic agenda.

“President Trump can walk and chew gum at the same time,” White House spokesman Kush Desai said in a statement.

“While the U.S. military continues wrecking the Iranian terrorist regime, the Trump administration at home remains laser-focused on delivering more economic relief for the American people.”

“President Trump’s economic agenda unleashed historic job, wage, and investment growth in his first term, and Americans can rest assured that as this same agenda — along with historic drug pricing, trade, and investment deals — continues to take effect, the best is yet to come,” the statement added.

Kelly’s Previous Clash With the Trump Administration

Kelly has previously clashed with the administration over military issues.

In January, he sued the War Department and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth after the Pentagon moved to demote him and cut his retirement pay for appearing in a video urging U.S. service members to refuse illegal orders.

A federal judge ruled in February that the Pentagon could not punish Kelly for participating in the video.
