Radical Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) flamboyant second husband and suspected biological brother has resurfaced online, showcasing a globe-trotting lifestyle in South Africa while referring to himself as a “dirty dandy” on social media.
Ahmed Nur Said Elmi’s social media profiles have emerged as President Donald Trump renews calls for investigations into the allegations that Omar once married her brother to evade U.S. immigration laws.
According to the New York Post, Elmi, 40, has been posting from Johannesburg, where he appears to be living after spending years abroad.
His Instagram content reportedly includes photos of himself wearing a visitor badge at the University of the Witwatersrand and frequenting upscale venues as he chronicles his daily life.
However, the account was made private shortly after the Post’s report.
Elmi’s reemergence coincides with Trump publicly revisiting the long-running allegation about Omar’s marriage history during a Pennsylvania rally on Tuesday.
“Married her brother to get in.”
“She married her brother in order to get in, right?” Trump told supporters.
“She married her brother.
“Can you imagine if Donald Trump married his sister?
“Beautiful. She’s a beautiful person,” he added.
“If I married my sister to get my citizenship, do you think I’d last for about two hours or something less than that?
“She married her brother to get in.
“Therefore, she’s here illegally,” the president declared.
“She should get the hell out.”
Trump expanded on the allegation in comments to Politico, saying he didn’t “want to see a woman that, you know, marries her brother to get in and then becomes a congressman and does nothing but complain.
“All she does is complain, complain, complain, and yet her country’s a mess.”
Omar has consistently denied the allegation.
Marital History Fueled Years of Scrutiny
Omar, born in Somalia and naturalized in 2000, entered a religious marriage with Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi in 2002.
In 2009, she legally married Elmi, a British citizen.
However, she married Elmi even while her religious union with Hirsi was still ongoing, and she continued having children with him.
She later married Hirsi in a civil ceremony, then divorced him and married political aide Tim Mynett in 2020.
Omar and Elmi separated in 2011 and did not legally divorce until 2017, according to reports.
The 2009 civil marriage to Elmi has been the central focus of speculation, public inquiries, and political concerns since Omar entered Congress.
Elmi’s Academic Career
While living abroad, Elmi has pursued academic work.
The University of Bristol’s research directory lists him as holding a Ph.D. and working as a research assistant whose areas of focus include gender studies, queer theory, decolonization, and international development.
His recent social media presence now adds a new chapter to a story that remains politically explosive, especially as Trump puts renewed attention on Omar’s past and insists it raises immigration-fraud concerns.
