George Soros-funded Democrat Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot has taken the death penalty off the table for an illegal alien accused of beheading a motel manager with a machete in front of the man’s wife and child, prosecutors confirmed in court.
Yordanas Cobos-Martinez, a Cuban national illegally in the United States, was indicted on capital murder charges for the September 10 killing of 60-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah.
Nagamallaiah was a respected motel manager, husband, and father.
According to charging documents, police say Cobos-Martinez attacked Nagamallaiah after the victim simply asked a co-worker to translate a request that he not use a broken washing machine.
Surveillance video reportedly captured Cobos-Martinez pulling a machete, attacking the manager, and then kicking the severed head “like a soccer ball” before throwing it in a dumpster.
Despite the brutality of the crime, the DA’s office told the court it does not intend to pursue capital punishment.
“Based on our investigation and my conversations, the state of Texas is not seeking the death penalty,” prosecutor Julie Johnson said during a November 20 hearing.
Johnson added that the office “reserves the right” to change its position before the final decision date of January 8, 2026, but did not indicate that such a reversal is likely.
According to reporting from The Times of India, Creuzot’s office suggested that Cobos-Martinez’s illegal immigration status could “complicate” efforts to secure a death penalty conviction.
Trump: The Murder Was Preventable
President Donald Trump blasted the case shortly after the killing, noting the suspect’s extensive criminal record and the Biden administration’s decision to release him into the country despite a prior order of removal.
“I am aware of the terrible reports regarding the murder… by an ILLEGAL ALIEN from Cuba who should have never been in our Country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“This individual was previously arrested for terrible crimes… but was released back into our Homeland under incompetent Joe Biden.”
Homeland Security confirmed that Cobos-Martinez had a final order of removal to Cuba.
However, Cuba refused to take him back because of his criminal history.
Under the Biden administration, ICE released him from the Bluebonnet Detention Center on January 13, 2025, under an “Order of Supervision.”
“This barbaric criminal was released because Cuba would not accept him,” DHS said.
“This gruesome, savage slaying… was completely preventable.”
A Violent Criminal History
Although some previous charges were dropped, Cobos-Martinez had been tried in California for carjacking and convicted on a lesser charge.
Following the murder, ICE immediately filed a detainer for custody.
Soros-Funded DA Again Under Scrutiny
Creuzot, who has repeatedly faced criticism for soft-on-crime policies, was elected with major support from the Texas Justice and Public Safety PAC, heavily funded by George Soros, according to state campaign records.
His office’s refusal to pursue the harshest penalty available under Texas law in one of the most barbaric killings in recent Dallas memory is already drawing renewed backlash.
