Soros Network Pumps Big Money into NY AG Letitia James’ Re-Election Campaign

New York Attorney General Letitia James has received several large payments as direct campaign contributions from billionaire activist George Soros and members of his family since 2019, including new funding directed toward her expected 2026 reelection bid, state records show.

According to filings with the New York State Board of Elections, Soros donated $18,000 to James in July 2024, while his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Soros, contributed $13,000 in May.

Those donations were designated for her 2026 campaign cycle.

The Soros family previously contributed roughly $40,000 to James’ earlier campaigns beginning in 2019, bringing their total direct support to more than $71,000.

James, a career Democrat who has served as attorney general since 2019, is widely expected to seek another term in November 2026.

Larger Network of Political Support

The donations are part of a broader funding ecosystem tied to Soros-aligned political organizations.

The Open Society Foundations, founded by George Soros, has provided $23.7 million to the Working Families Party since 2016 through its fundraising arm, the Working Families Organization Inc.

In addition, Soros and his family have made $865,000 in direct contributions to the New York Working Families Party since 2018.

James has longstanding ties to the party dating back two decades.

In 2003, she became the party’s first successful New York City Council candidate when she was elected to represent districts that included Fort Greene in Brooklyn.

GOP Candidates Target Soros Ties

Several Republicans have already announced campaigns to challenge James in 2026.

Michael Henry, a commercial litigator running for the GOP nomination, criticized the Soros backing and tied it to public safety concerns.

“George Soros has spent years financing the radical left’s most extreme projects, and the outcome is almost always the same: instability and disorder that is destroying our state,” Henry told Breitbart News.

“We saw it with [Manhattan District Attorney] Alvin Bragg, so no one should be surprised that [Soros] is heavily backing Letitia James’ ideological crusades and political vendettas that put New Yorkers’ safety on the back burner,” he said.

“When the same donor who funds chaos underwrites New York’s top law enforcement office, the results speak for themselves.”

Other declared Republican candidates include:

  • Khurram Dara, a 36-year-old attorney specializing in cryptocurrency, who launched his campaign in November 2025

  • Saritha Komatireddy, a former federal prosecutor from the Eastern District of New York, who announced her candidacy in December 2025

No Democratic challengers to James have publicly emerged.

James rose to national prominence after campaigning on pursuing politically-motivated legal action against President Donald Trump.

She later secured a controversial civil judgment against Trump and his company that was subsequently reduced by an appellate court.

The Trump-led Justice Department is now seeking to revive a criminal case against James that was previously dismissed by a federal judge in Virginia earlier this year.

The 2026 New York attorney general election is scheduled for November 3, 2026.
