Super Bowl-winning NFL star Arthur Jones has tragically died suddenly, according to reports.
The Baltimore Ravens announced that the former defensive tackle and Super Bowl champion died unexpectedly at the age of 39.
Jones was found dead on Friday at his home.
Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to Jones’s home in Syracuse, New York, shortly before 11 a.m., according to News Channel 9.
His pacemaker reportedly triggered an alert to his doctor.
However, Jones had already passed away by the time EMS arrived.
He had a known pre-existing heart condition and likely died from a sudden cardiac arrest.
Jones was the older brother of ex-UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former New England Patriots star Chandler Jones.
The late football star was selected by the Ravens in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
He went on to spend four seasons in Baltimore before short stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Washington.
It was with the Ravens that Jones cemented his place in franchise history.
He played a key role in the team’s 2012 Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
In that game, Jones sacked quarterback Colin Kaepernick in the closing moments and recovered a fumble, helping secure Baltimore’s championship.
In a statement, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said:
“We are terribly saddened to learn of Arthur Jones’s sudden passing.
“Arthur’s presence was a gift to everyone he encountered.
“His big, bright smile, infectious energy, and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others.
“He was kind, courteous, and enthusiastic — always displaying a love for family, teammates, and friends.
“We send our deepest condolences to the Jones family and all who loved Arthur.”
Jones started 20 games in his four years with Baltimore, recording 173 tackles and 10 sacks.
His final two seasons were his most productive, posting 100 tackles and 8.5 sacks.
After leaving the Ravens, he struggled to replicate that success with the Colts and Washington.
Injuries limited Jones to just 12 combined appearances with the Colts and Washington.
He ended up retiring in 2017.
A Rochester, New York native and former Syracuse standout, Jones was remembered not only as a Super Bowl champion but as a teammate known for his relentless work ethic and upbeat personality.
