Jennifer Flavin, wife of actor Sylvester Stallone, is raising eyebrows in Hollywood after questioning the growing number of celebrities whose children have suddenly started to identify as “transgender” or “queer.”
Flavin suggests the phenomenon reflects a social trend rather than genuine self-discovery.
Speaking on “The Katie Miller Podcast,” Flavin said she believes the entertainment industry’s culture of excess and lack of structure has blurred boundaries for young people growing up in celebrity households.
“I just think Hollywood is, you know, it’s all about expression,” Flavin said after Miller joked about whether there was “something in the water” influencing celebrity families.
“However, you want to express yourself.
“If you feel like a cat today, you’re a cat.
“And it’s so loosey-goosey,” Flavin continued.
“I don’t think that we’re really understanding that these kids are not our accessories.
“They’re little human beings that need structure.
“And structure is really important for them because it helps their brain organize everything.”
“Too Much of Everything”
Flavin, a former model who raised three daughters with Stallone, said the lifestyle common in Hollywood can lead to instability for children.
“And I think growing up in a Hollywood home, there’s really no structure because you have this thing going, and you’ve got private planes,” she said.
“And you’ve got all these giant homes with chefs and secretaries and assistants and, you know, housekeepers and nannies.
“And there’s just too much of everything. It gets really confusing for a little person.”
Flavin added that while adults should be free to make their own choices, children need firm guidance and common-sense parenting before being encouraged to explore new identities.
“It’s OK what you decide to be as an adult, but raise them just with good common sense,” she said.
“My Daughters Were Tomboys”
Flavin said her own daughters, who are now in their twenties, were active and adventurous as children, but she and Stallone never interpreted that as a sign of gender confusion.
“My daughters were tomboys,” Flavin explained.
“They preferred to wear pants than dresses, you know?
“And they loved sports.
“But I never said, ‘Oh, you’re a boy now.’
“I just said, ‘You love to play sports, you love to hang out with boys, that’s awesome.’”

Celebrity Trend Under Scrutiny
In recent years, several high-profile celebrities have publicly discussed raising children who identify as transgender or queer, including Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle Union, Jamie Lee Curtis, Charlize Theron, Cher, Jennifer Lopez, Liev Schreiber, Cynthia Nixon, Annette Bening, Robert De Niro, Marlon Wayans, Sting, Sigourney Weaver, and Rosie O’Donnell.
Some of these children began identifying as transgender while still minors, while others came out later in life.
Flavin’s comments add to a growing chorus of voices, including parents, psychologists, and entertainers, questioning whether Hollywood’s cultural environment and media influence are fueling a social contagion among young people.
