Taxpayers Left Paying Rent for Thousands of Illegal Aliens Given ‘Free’ Homes by Boston Democrats

Massachusetts taxpayers are footing a hefty bill for the state’s resettlement program aimed at integrating illegal aliens into “free” housing.

However, the program is facing growing problems as most of those illegal aliens are now unable to afford to pay rent.

Since 2023, the state has “resettled” at least 5,000 illegal border-crossers into apartments.

The program costs taxpayers a staggering $30,000 stipend per home.

This move was part of a push to move illegal aliens out of emergency shelters and into more permanent housing through the HomeBASE program.

However, the lofty goals of the program are clashing with the reality on the ground, and the sustainability of these housing solutions is now being called into question.

The $30,000 stipend was intended to cover moving expenses, furniture, security deposits, and other startup costs for illegal migrants.

While these aliens were provided with “free” housing, they were not required to provide evidence that they would establish stable employment that could help them pay the rent once the initial funding ran out.

As a result, many of the illegals are now unable to cover their rent on their own.

The HomeBASE program allows illegal aliens to pay only 30% of their income toward rent.

However, the issue lies in the fact that many of the migrants in the program have not been able to secure jobs that provide enough income to meet the 30% requirement.

Instead, the program’s $30,000 stipend has covered most of their rent costs, but that fund is rapidly depleted, leaving illegal aliens without sufficient resources to maintain their housing.

State officials have heralded the HomeBASE program as a success, pointing to the fact that it has moved migrants out of the controversial emergency shelter system.

However, the truth is more complicated.

Many illegal aliens are being moved from one temporary solution to another, with their time in apartments short-lived.

Once their $30,000 allotment runs out, the illegal immigrants will need more money for rent or move to a housing shelter, all at the expense of taxpayers.

Most illegal aliens have yet to secure full-time employment and are reliant on the program’s funding to remain housed.

But when that funding runs out, these illegal aliens are at risk of ending up back on the streets or seeking reentry into the emergency shelter system, the very system that the state is touting as a success.

While Massachusetts officials claim success in reducing reliance on emergency shelters, the reality for many migrants is that the HomeBASE program has not provided the long-term solution that was promised.

The program may help illegals temporarily, but without sustainable employment, most are reliant on taxpayer handouts in the long term.

As illegal aliens move out of their subsidized apartments, some may find themselves caught in an endless cycle of temporary housing arrangements, with no clear path to permanent self-sufficiency.

As the cycle continues, taxpayers will be left funding the failed program.

In the end, the promise of HomeBASE as a way to transition migrants to independence may be little more than a chimera, leaving these illegals no better off in the long run.

With many illegal aliens still relying heavily on state assistance and unable to secure stable work, the HomeBASE program’s failure to ensure long-term housing stability calls into question its ability to deliver on its promises.

As the state continues to push the narrative of success, the truth remains that many of these illegal aliens will never make a meaningful contribution to society.
