The family of Karmelo Anthony, the Texas teen arrested for brutally stabbing another teenage boy to death, is claiming that his murder trial is a battle “against white supremacy.”
A left-wing activist representing the Anthony family is framing the murder charges as “racist,” despite the defendant’s own legal team insisting the case is not about race.
Dominique Alexander is the founder of the Next Generation Action Network (NGAN) and spokesman for the family of Karmelo Anthony.
He made the remarks on social media shortly after a grand jury indicted the teen in the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf, a white 17-year-old.
Alexander wrote in a statement posted to X.
“This case is yet another example of what it means to be black in America, where even our self-defense is questioned, scrutinized, and politicized.
“Stand with us in the fight against white supremacy.”
Alexander did not offer additional details about the case but characterized the indictment as racially motivated.
“This case involves multiple minors and sensitive details that I cannot and will not speak about publicly,” he added.
“That is why, from the beginning, I have refused to let this be tried in the court of public opinion.”
Karmelo Anthony, who is black, was indicted in connection with Metcalf’s death.
Despite admitting to the stabbing, Anthony has claimed through his legal team that he acted in self-defense.
The fatal incident occurred during a high school track meet on April 2.
Metcalf, a student at Memorial High School, reportedly confronted Anthony for sitting under his team’s tent.
The two did not attend the same school.
The argument escalated, and Anthony allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Metcalf in the chest.
Metcalf later died in his twin brother’s arms.
While details of the case remain under wraps due to the involvement of minors, the incident has drawn increasing attention amid public statements by activists and legal representatives.
Anthony’s defense attorney, Mike Howard, pushed back on Alexander’s framing, however.
Haward is calling for the legal process to remain focused on the facts.
“The factual and legal issues involved in this case are not about race,” Howard told Fox News.
“The case involves two kids, one white, one black, so it’s understandable that some people would make it about race or discuss it in terms of race.”
“To be very clear, we don’t see this as a case about race,” he added.
“The law applies to every person, regardless of their race, equally.
“We have faith in the people of Collin County to apply the law blindly.”
Alexander and NGAN have previously aligned with movements like Black Lives Matter.
However, the rhetoric surrounding the case has prompted concern that political activism could interfere with judicial proceedings.
Fundraising campaigns for Anthony’s defense have provided the accused killer and his family with money to fund a lavish lifestyle amid national media attention.
The family reportedly used donation money to move into a new luxury home in Frisco, which is valued at $8-900,000.
The property is in a ritzy gated community and is estimated to cost around $3,500 per month.
Vehicles spotted at the home included a white Suburban, a black Acura, and a third sedan.
A neighbor also reported the family had recently acquired a new vehicle.
Anthony’s trial is expected to proceed later this year.
No trial date has been set as of this report.
