Tim Walz Triggers Backlash by Complaining as Missiles Flatten Iranian Regime

Minnesota’s outgoing Democrat Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) faced sharp backlash online after complaining about the U.S. military strikes against the brutal Iranian regime.

Walz responded to the strikes with a brief post declaring: “No new wars.”

The post came as U.S. forces launched missile strikes targeting Iran’s leadership and military infrastructure, eliminating the country’s longtime theocratic ruler, Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei.

Walz, the Democratic Party’s 2024 vice presidential nominee, joined other Democrats criticizing President Donald Trump’s decision to strike Iranian targets.

His two-word post on X quickly drew criticism from figures across the political spectrum.

Critics Push Back Online

Aviva Klompas, who previously worked at Israel’s mission to the United Nations, challenged Walz’s framing of the conflict.

“Iran started this war 47 years ago when they took Americans hostage,” Klompas said.

“Honestly, can people crack open a book before posting nonsense?”

Actor Michael Rapaport also criticized Walz’s comments while sharing Klompas’s response.

“I’m glad that old bag of s— and his entire regime are gone,” he wrote.

Rapaport has been outspoken in recent days about Iran’s leadership and the regime’s treatment of dissidents.

Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) also weighed in, posting a pointed remark directed at the Minnesota governor.

“Will this affect your Somali kickbacks?” Fine wrote.

Conservative videographer Cam Higby raised another criticism of Walz’s messaging, saying:

“Didn’t you just try to start a war with Trump a month ago?”

Walz’s Foreign Policy Messaging Draws Scrutiny

Walz has spent the past year as one of President Trump’s most vocal critics among Democratic governors.

He has frequently criticized the administration’s immigration enforcement policies and has argued that the president has exceeded his authority in several areas of federal policy.

At the same time, Walz previously expressed support for Ukraine during Russia’s invasion.

In a prior statement alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Walz wrote:

“Minnesota stands with the people of Ukraine as they fight to defend freedom and democracy.”

Critics pointed to the contrast between that statement and his opposition to military action against Iran.

Notably, the Iranian dictatorship recently murdered tens of thousands of protesting civilians.

Debate Intensifies Over Iran Strike

The U.S. strikes that eliminated Khamenei were part of a broader campaign targeting Iran’s military leadership and nuclear infrastructure.

Supporters of the operation argue that the strikes were necessary to neutralize threats posed by the Iranian regime.

The regime has long been accused of sponsoring terrorism and suppressing domestic dissent.

Opponents have warned that the action could escalate conflict in the region.

Walz’s brief response became a flashpoint in that debate.

As critics were quick to point out, the statement ignored the Iranian regime’s long record of aggression and human rights abuses.

As the online backlash demonstrated, the governor’s post quickly became one of the most widely discussed reactions to the strikes.
