In a significant development, two senior Republicans in the House and Senate have called for the FBI to review eight thumb drives that contain hidden documents related to the 2016 investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server.
The documents, which are now being scrutinized in light of recently declassified materials, could have major implications for both Clinton’s handling of classified information and the broader political landscape surrounding the 2016 election.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chair Rick Crawford (R-AK) have requested that FBI Director Kash Patel review these thumb drives to determine if the contents should be declassified.
Grassley posted about the request on social media on Tuesday, signaling the growing interest in these materials.
According to Grassley, the thumb drives have been stored at an “FBI offshoot office” since 2018.
Many are speculating that this refers to the Washington Field Office Northern Virginia Resident Agency, located about an hour outside of Washington, D.C.
The thumb drives, which were reportedly obtained by Russian intelligence agencies, contain emails linked to Clinton, former President Barack Obama, and members of Congress.
The existence of these thumb drives was revealed in a recent declassification of materials, which further exposed the apparent conspiracy orchestrated by the Obama administration to tie President Donald Trump to Russia.
This has reignited discussions about the integrity of the FBI’s 2015-2016 investigation into Clinton’s use of a private server while serving as Secretary of State.
The probe, codenamed “Midyear Exam,” ended without any indictments.
One of the most significant revelations comes from a classified annex of the Department of Justice Inspector General’s (DOJ OIG) report.
The DOJ OIG examined the FBI’s investigation into Clinton’s email practices.
According to the report, the FBI received eight thumb drives from a source codenamed “T1,” containing potential evidence relevant to the Midyear investigation.
However, the FBI never fully reviewed the documents, in part because of a claim of executive privilege made by Obama’s White House.
The thumb drives contain critical emails from the State Department, which could have provided insight into whether Clinton’s private server compromised national security.
Some of the files also include emails from Obama.
A letter from White House Counsel W. Neil Eggleston on January 19, 2017, asserted the former president’s right to protect potentially privileged information.
The files had been in the hands of foreign intelligence services, likely Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service, which had obtained the documents through cyber espionage.
The fact that the FBI did not investigate these materials more thoroughly has raised significant questions about the agency’s handling of the investigation and its commitment to transparency.
While the full contents of the thumb drives are still under wraps, it is believed that they contain emails from Obama’s White House, Congress, and the State Department.
The intelligence community’s decision to withhold these documents has further fueled speculation about the Obama administration’s role in shaping the narrative surrounding the 2016 election and its aftermath.
Additionally, another file released by U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard revealed that Russian intelligence had obtained emails detailing concerns within the Democratic Party about Clinton’s health during the 2016 campaign.
These concerns, including reports of Clinton’s use of heavy tranquilizers, allegedly raised red flags among high-ranking figures, including Obama himself.
The emails also point to the growing fears within the Democrat establishment about Clinton’s ability to lead effectively during the campaign.
The call for an FBI review of the thumb drives marks a new chapter in the ongoing investigation into the Clinton email scandal and its wider implications.
With Republicans in Congress pushing for more transparency, the contents of these thumb drives may shed new light on the connections between the Clinton campaign, the Obama administration, and the Russian interference narrative that has plagued U.S. politics for years.
As the FBI now faces pressure to review these materials, the question remains whether the truth will finally be revealed about the handling of classified information and the political machinations that shaped the 2016 election.
