A senior U.S. health official is sounding the alarm after explosive revelations that Canada’s government-run euthanasia program is now intertwined with organ harvesting, calling it a “strange new horror” that should terrify the world.
Jim O’Neil, the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, blasted Canada’s so-called Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program.
O’Neil responded after reports confirmed that organs are being taken from patients who are medically euthanized.
“We thought we’d seen all the possible horrors, you know, in America,” O’Neil said, according to the Washington Examiner.
“And then Canada had this strange new horror that was really just shocking.”
From “Compassion” to Commodity
O’Neil’s comments follow a deeply disturbing case involving a 38-year-old Canadian man who was euthanized and had his heart harvested.
The organ was then transplanted into a 59-year-old American man suffering from heart failure.
Canada has quietly become a global leader in organ donation after euthanasia (ODE).
It’s a practice that critics say creates an irreconcilable conflict of interest between preserving life and extracting valuable organs.
A Dutch study found that 136 of the 286 documented ODE cases worldwide up to 2021 occurred in Canada alone, cementing the country’s role at the forefront of this ethically explosive practice.
“So Many Conflicts of Interest”
O’Neil warned that the system is riddled with dangers.
“There are many factors and so many potential conflicts of interest,” he said.
The top Trump administration official notes that while organ donation is a critical medical issue, the merger of euthanasia and transplantation raises profound ethical red flags.
He added that he has not yet spoken with his Canadian counterpart but described the situation as “very unfortunate.”
Liberal Government’s Radical Expansion of Death
Canada’s euthanasia regime did not arrive at this point by accident.
Under the Liberal government, now led by Mark Carney, assisted suicide has been expanded 13-fold since its legalization in 2016.
The nation’s taxpayer-funded MAiD has become the fastest-growing euthanasia program in the world.
Health Canada has since released multiple studies exploring advance requests for euthanasia, opening the door to people being approved for death before they are even incapacitated.
At the same time, the federal government has floated proposals to strip pro-life charities and churches of their tax-exempt status, signaling a broader ideological war against institutions that defend the sanctity of life.
A Chilling Warning
What began as “compassionate end-of-life care” has morphed into a system where death and organ procurement are functionally linked, a reality that senior U.S. officials are now openly condemning.
As Canada continues racing down this path, critics warn the country is setting a precedent that treats human life not as sacred, but as a resource to be managed, optimized, and ultimately harvested.
