President Donald Trump on Thursday publicly called for an investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) after it emerged that the radical Minnesota Democrat amassed tens of millions of dollars while serving in Congress.
In a statement on social media, Trump questioned whether such wealth could have been accumulated legally on a public salary and demanded answers.
“Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is worth over $30 Million Dollars,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“There is no way such wealth could have been accumulated, legally, while being paid the salary of a politician.”
Trump said Omar “should be investigated for Financial and Political Crimes, and that investigation should start, NOW!”
The post quickly drew thousands of reactions.
It comes as House Republicans continue to scrutinize Omar’s finances amid a broader investigation into fraud tied to taxpayer-funded programs in Minnesota.
Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, is already under review by the House Oversight Committee.
Chairman James Comer has confirmed that his panel is seeking answers regarding Omar and her husband, Democrat political consultant Tim Mynett, though no formal charges have been filed.
Recent financial disclosures have intensified the scrutiny.
Omar’s net worth reportedly surged by as much as $30 million in roughly a single year, according to filings first highlighted by watchdog groups and conservative media.
The bulk of the family’s reported wealth is tied to Mynett’s venture capital firm, Rose Lake Capital, which was founded in 2022.
Court records and prior reporting show that Rose Lake Capital had virtually no cash on hand in late 2022, just tens of dollars in a bank account, before being valued as high as $25 million within a short period.
The firm has since quietly removed the names and biographies of several high-profile advisers from its website, raising additional red flags among investigators and financial analysts.
Oversight Republicans have also pointed to the timing of the wealth explosion, which coincides with the unraveling of a massive Minnesota fraud scandal involving childcare, healthcare, and social services programs.
Those Somali-led schemes, federal prosecutors estimate, cost taxpayers billions of dollars.
Lawmakers have questioned whether political connections played a role in shielding certain actors from scrutiny.
Comer has previously said his legal team is weighing whether to subpoena Mynett as part of the investigation, calling the rapid accumulation of wealth “not possible” without further explanation.
Meanwhile, Omar has dismissed criticism in the past, telling skeptics to review her public disclosures and denying any wrongdoing.
Trump’s comments add new political pressure as the Oversight Committee’s probe continues.
Meanwhile, Omar is also expected to appear at an “ICE Out of Minnesota” protest in Minneapolis on Friday.
The event is drawing attention amid heightened tensions over immigration enforcement in the state.
For Republicans, the issue is no longer rhetorical.
They argue the combination of unexplained wealth, ongoing fraud investigations in Omar’s home state, and her proximity to politically connected financial entities demands a full accounting.
As Comer has repeatedly stated, Congress “will get answers,” one way or another.
