Trump Blasts ‘Fake News,’ Calls on FCC to Revoke Licenses of ABC, NBC

President Donald Trump unleashed a late-night broadside against NBC and ABC News on Sunday.

Trump is accusing both “fake news” networks of overwhelmingly negative coverage and suggesting the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) should consider revoking their licenses.

The president noted that “97%” of their reporting about him has been negative.

In a Truth Social post, Trump wrote:

“IF THAT IS THE CASE, THEY ARE SIMPLY AN ARM OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY AND SHOULD, ACCORDING TO MANY HAVE THEIR LICENSES REVOKED.”

Trump added that he would be “totally in favor” of such a move, calling the outlets “so biased and untruthful, an actual threat to our Democracy.”

The post echoed a long-running complaint from conservatives about slanted coverage from legacy media outlets.

While it was unclear where Trump sourced the “97%” figure, studies support these claims.

The conservative Media Research Center (MRC) previously found that 92% of coverage of Trump’s first 100 days in office was negative.

In a follow-up, Trump blasted both outlets as “FAKE NEWS” and “two of the absolute worst and most biased networks anywhere in the world.”

He also questioned why the companies aren’t paying significant fees to operate.

“They should lose their Licenses for their unfair coverage of Republicans and/or Conservatives, but at a minimum, they should pay up BIG for having the privilege of using the most valuable airwaves anywhere at anytime!!!” Trump wrote.

“Crooked ‘journalism’ should not be rewarded, it should be terminated!!!”

Neither ABC nor NBC News has publicly responded to Trump’s posts.

Trump’s call reflects growing conservative frustration with corporate media.

This is also far from Trump’s first clash with broadcast media.

Last year, the president reached a $15 million settlement in a defamation suit against ABC.

Earlier this year, Paramount Global and CBS agreed to a settlement over Trump’s election interference lawsuit against the network.

NBC, meanwhile, was once home to Trump’s long-running show “The Apprentice,” which he hosted before launching his successful 2016 presidential campaign.

Since then, Trump has repeatedly accused the network of political bias.
