Trump Calls Democrat Jay Jones an ‘Animal,’ Says He Should Be ‘Put in Prison for What He Said’

President Donald Trump has blasted Virginia Democrat Jay Jones, calling the state’s attorney general nominee an “animal.”

It comes after text messages surfaced showing Jones fantasizing about killing a Republican lawmaker and his children.

Trump made the remarks aboard Air Force One while speaking to reporters.

He responded just days after Jones repeatedly attacked the president during a campaign debate in Virginia.

When asked whether he planned to weigh in on the attorney general race, Trump didn’t hold back.

“You mean the one that wanted to kill some of his children and kill somebody?” Trump said.

“You mean the animal that wanted to kill somebody who should not be allowed to be running for that office?

“He’s a third-rate intellect, he’s a guy who – I’ve never seen anybody say what he said, that he wanted to kill his opponent’s children – he wanted to kill his opponent,” Trump continued.

“I can’t imagine anybody voting for Jay Jones.

“Look, you would think he’s totally discredited.

“I would think he wouldn’t even be allowed to do that; anybody would be put in prison for what he said.”

“He can join a long list of attorney generals that have been suing and losing,” Trump added.

Shocking Text Messages Emerge

The controversy centers on messages first reported earlier this month in which Jones texted Virginia state lawmaker Carrie Coyner in 2022, describing a violent fantasy about murdering then–House Speaker Todd Gilbert.

In the text exchange, Jones wrote that he would choose to “fire two bullets” into Gilbert’s head and compared the Republican leader to dictators Pol Pot and Adolf Hitler.

He also referred to Gilbert’s young children as “fascists.”

Jones later apologized for the messages, saying he is now “embarrassed” by them.

However, the apology has done little to quiet the outrage, as top Virginia Democrats continue to back his campaign.

Democrats Stand by Jones

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger has refused to rescind her endorsement of Jones, even after the violent texts became public.

Her campaign website even continues to sell Jones-branded merchandise.

The Republican Governors Association, which is supporting Spanberger’s opponent, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, sharply criticized Spanberger’s decision to stand by Jones.

“Jay Jones threatened to murder his political opponent and their children, and Abigail Spanberger still fully endorses him and is trying to make money off it,” RGA rapid response director Kollin Crompton said.

“If Spanberger is willing to put partisan politics above doing the right thing and standing up to political violence, how can she be trusted as governor?” Crompton added.

Trump: “Anyone Else Would Be in Prison”

The president’s comments underscore growing frustration among conservatives who say Democrats are held to a different standard when it comes to political extremism and threats of violence.

“I can’t imagine anybody voting for Jay Jones,” Trump said.

“Anybody would be put in prison for what he said.”

As of Sunday, Jones remains in the race with continued support from Democrat leadership.

Critics call the decision to stand by Jones yet another example of the Left’s selective outrage when the violence comes from within its own ranks.
