President Donald Trump has called on Senate Republicans to eliminate Obamacare and send its massive insurance-company subsidies directly to Americans instead.
The president is arguing that doing so would dismantle what he described as “the worst Healthcare anywhere in the World.”
Trump made the proposal on Truth Social, blasting the Affordable Care Act’s funding model and urging the GOP to shift “Hundreds of Billions of Dollars” from insurance carriers to individual Americans.
“I am recommending to Senate Republicans that the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies in order to save the bad Healthcare provided by ObamaCare, BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE SO THAT THEY CAN PURCHASE THEIR OWN, MUCH BETTER, HEALTHCARE, and have money left over,” Trump wrote.
He added:
“In other words, take from the BIG, BAD Insurance Companies, give it to the people, and terminate, per Dollar spent, the worst Healthcare anywhere in the World, ObamaCare.”

Trump concluded the post with what he called an “unrelated” point:
“We must still terminate the Filibuster!”
GOP Backs Trump
Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) immediately endorsed Trump’s proposal, announcing he is drafting legislation to return Obamacare subsidy dollars directly to Americans through health-savings-style accounts.
“I’m writing the bill right now,” Scott said on X.
“We must stop taxpayer money from going to insurance companies and instead give it directly to Americans in HSA-style accounts and let them buy the health care they want.
“This will increase competition & drive down costs.”
Totally agree, @POTUS! I’m writing the bill right now.

Trump has repeatedly slammed the Affordable Care Act, writing last month:
“As I have said for years, OBAMACARE IS A DISASTER!
“Rates are going through the roof for really bad healthcare!!!
“Do something Democrats!!!”
Shutdown Standoff Intensifies Over Obamacare Subsidies
The federal government has been shut down since October 1, now the longest shutdown in U.S. history.
Republicans are blaming Democrats for repeatedly blocking a clean continuing resolution that maintains current funding levels without policy changes.
Democrats are insisting on securing Obamacare-related subsidies as part of any funding deal.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said this week that Democrats are using the shutdown to push taxpayer-funded health care for illegal immigrants, calling the demand unacceptable.
Johnson has also warned that the structure of Obamacare subsidies requires reform:
“The expiring ObamaCare subsidy at the end of the year is a serious problem. …
“We’re throwing good money at a bad, broken system, and so it needs real reforms.”
Democrats, meanwhile, are framing the standoff as a Republican refusal to protect health care subsidies they see as politically advantageous.
They also believe the issue boosts their electoral prospects.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said Wednesday:
“I think that one of the reasons of many that the Democrats had so much success is an appreciation the Democrats are trying to protect health care for the American people.”
