President Donald Trump weighed in Wednesday on explosive reports that former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey are under active criminal investigation for potential misconduct tied to the discredited Trump–Russia probe.
Speaking to reporters during a meeting with African leaders at the White House, the president responded directly to a question from Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy.
Doocy asked Trump whether he believed the two former intelligence chiefs should be “behind bars.”
“Well, I know nothing about it other than what I read today,” Trump said.
“But I will tell you, I think they’re very dishonest people.
“I think they’re crooked as hell.
“And maybe they have to pay a price for that.”
“I believe they are truly bad people and dishonest people,” Trump added.
“So whatever happens, happens.”

The comments came after Fox News reported that Justice Department sources confirmed an ongoing criminal investigation into Brennan.
The probe focused at least in part on whether the former CIA chief made false statements to Congress during testimony about the origins of the Trump–Russia narrative.
According to the report, current CIA Director John Ratcliffe referred evidence of Brennan’s alleged misconduct to FBI Director Kash Patel, triggering the probe.
DOJ sources said the investigation was opened and remains active, but they declined to elaborate on the scope.
The investigation into Comey, meanwhile, is said to be running in parallel.
DOJ sources confirmed that a separate criminal probe into the former FBI director is also underway, though the exact allegations remain undisclosed.
According to two sources familiar with the matter, internal assessments within the FBI have characterized Brennan and Comey’s actions as a potential “conspiracy,” opening the door to broader legal exposure.
The developments mark a stunning reversal of fortune for the two former intelligence leaders, both of whom spent years pushing the now-debunked narrative that Trump colluded with Russia to win the 2016 election.
The so-called “Steele Dossier,” which formed the foundation of much of that narrative, was funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee and has since been thoroughly discredited.
Adding to the scrutiny, Ratcliffe last week declassified a “lessons learned” review of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA), the document that accused Russia of working to elect Trump.
The internal CIA review revealed that the process was tainted by “procedural anomalies” and that Obama-era political appointees had overridden standard intelligence protocols.
Most notably, the review concluded that the inclusion of the Steele Dossier, riddled with unverified and false claims, violated “fundamental tradecraft principles” and undermined the credibility of the assessment.
The CIA and FBI both declined to comment on the reported investigations.
The probe into Brennan and Comey, if it leads to charges, could mark one of the most significant accountability moments yet for officials involved in the Russia collusion hoax.
The years-long anti-Trump campaign consumed the corporate media and the political establishment, only to collapse under its own weight.
President Trump has long maintained that the investigations into him were politically motivated and rooted in lies perpetuated at the highest levels of the intelligence community.
This week’s developments may be the first step toward proving him right.
