President Donald Trump has fired back after Olympic skier Hunter Hess made anti-American remarks during a recent press conference.
Hess said he had “mixed emotions” about representing the United States in the 2026 Winter Olympics amid Trump’s ongoing immigration enforcement policies.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said:
“U.S. Olympic Skier, Hunter Hess, a real Loser, says he doesn’t represent his Country in the current Winter Olympics.
“If that’s the case, he shouldn’t have tried out for the Team, and it’s too bad he’s on it.
“Very hard to root for someone like this.
“MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The president’s remarks followed a pre-Olympics press conference on Friday.
During the presser, Hess discussed his feelings about competing for the United States.
“It brings up mixed emotions to represent the U.S. right now, I think,” Hess said.
“It’s a little hard,” he continued.
“There’s obviously a lot going on that I’m not the biggest fan of, and I think a lot of people aren’t.
“I think for me, it’s more I’m representing my friends and family back home, the people that represented before me, all the things that I believe are good about the U.S,” he added.
“Just because I’m wearing the flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in the US.”
Hunter Hess has every right to voice how much he hates America. That is protected speech and the government cannot penalize him for that.
However, representing your country in the Olympics is a privilege; not a right.
That privilege should be revoked.

Fellow freestyle skier and 2022 gold medalist Chris Lillis made similar statements during the same press conference.
“I feel heartbroken about what’s happening in the United States,” Lillis said.
“I’m pretty sure you’re referencing ICE and some of the protests and things like that.
“I think that, as a country, we need to focus on respecting everybody’s rights and making sure that we’re treating our citizens as well as anybody, with love and respect.
“I hope that when people look at athletes compete in the Olympics, they realize that that’s the America we’re trying to represent.”
Other athletes have made comparable remarks.
Women’s hockey player Kelly Pannek described the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement as “unnecessary and just horrifying.”
Figure skater Amber Glenn criticized what she described as a lack of attention to “LGBTQ” issues.
