President Donald Trump has announced that he is formally designating Antifa as a terrorist organization.
The president has also ordered federal investigations into the far-left group’s financial supporters.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump blasted Antifa as a “sick, dangerous, radical left disaster.”
He also vowed to pursue accountability for those funding the network.
In the post, Trump wrote:
“I am pleased to inform our many U.S.A. Patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION.
“I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices.”
The move comes after years of violent unrest linked to the group.
Trump first pledged to designate Antifa as a terrorist organization in May 2020 during the “George Floyd” riots.
However, the effort was shut down by the Biden administration.
In January 2021, Antifa-linked rioters wreaked havoc in Portland, Oregon.
The unrest left behind hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.
Dozens of businesses, including banks, cafes, and jewelry stores, were vandalized or looted.
Even then-Mayor Ted Wheeler, a far-left Democrat, admitted that Antifa operatives had engaged in criminal acts and destruction.
The group has a long history of violence.
Journalist and author Andy Ngo, who has extensively documented Antifa’s activities, was beaten unconscious by members of the group in June 2019 while covering one of their rallies.
He required hospitalization for serious head injuries.
Despite its track record, Democrat leaders have repeatedly downplayed Antifa’s role in political violence.
During a 2020 presidential debate, then-candidate Joe Biden infamously dismissed Antifa as merely “an idea.”
His remarks drew sharp criticism from law enforcement officials who pointed to the group’s organized presence on the ground.
Trump’s latest move puts new pressure on federal law enforcement to not only dismantle Antifa’s networks but also expose and prosecute its backers.
