Trump Signs Order to Officially Designate Antifa as a Domestic Terrorist Organization

President Donald Trump formally signed an executive order officially declaring the violent far-left group Antifa a domestic terror organization.

The White House says the move is aimed at dismantling the well-funded leftist group’s network of violence and intimidation.

In the order, Trump described Antifa as a “militarist, anarchist enterprise that explicitly calls for the overthrow of the United States government, law enforcement authorities, and our system of law.”

The president charged that the group organizes nationwide campaigns of violence, including riots, assaults on law enforcement, and armed standoffs meant to obstruct federal law.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller reposted the order on X, vowing the administration would “dismantle Antifa.”

Trump himself directed officials to “investigate, disrupt, and dismantle any and all illegal operations—especially those involving terrorist actions—conducted by Antifa or any person claiming to act on behalf of Antifa.”

That includes pursuing criminal investigations of individuals and entities funding the group.

Though Antifa lacks a formal leadership structure, its adherents typically operate in decentralized cells, wear masks to conceal their identities, and embrace “direct action” tactics.

The president’s order accused the group of recruiting and radicalizing young Americans, using elaborate means to conceal its funding, and coordinating with other extremist organizations to spread violence and suppress political speech.

Trump noted that these efforts amount to “domestic terrorism.”

Republicans praised the move.

“President @realDonaldTrump made the right call to designate this radical left-wing group as a terrorist organization!” Rep. Lance Gooden (R-TX) posted on X.

Gooden attached footage of activists waving Antifa flags and chanting, “No border, no wall, no USA at all.”

Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) responded to the White House statement with a simple, “Good.”

Other GOP lawmakers echoed the call for accountability.

“Every money trail and organizer propping them up must face accountability,” Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) wrote.

“They are domestic terrorists, and they must be punished.”

Trump first previewed the move earlier this month following the September 10 political assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

Authorities revealed that the suspected assassin had engraved Antifa-linked slogans on his ammunition.

“It’s something I would do, yeah,” Trump told reporters at the time.

“I would do that 100 percent. Antifa is terrible.”

The executive order may face legal challenges, as U.S. law does not currently provide a formal domestic terror designation process equivalent to the State Department’s list of foreign terrorist organizations.

While extremist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and American Nazi Party have long been condemned, the First Amendment has historically protected their right to exist, absent criminal activity.

For that reason, federal action has typically targeted specific criminal conduct rather than membership itself.

This is not the first time Trump has acted against Antifa.

In 2020, after riots swept cities during the Black Lives Matter-led violent unrest, he announced his intention to classify the group as a terrorist organization.

In January 2021, just before the end of his first term, he signed a memorandum barring foreign nationals affiliated with Antifa from entering the United States.

Trump’s latest move, however, marks the most direct effort to brand the group as a domestic terrorist threat.

With the president now directing federal agencies to investigate its funding, recruitment, and operations, the administration is signaling that Antifa will no longer be treated as a fringe protest movement but as a coordinated extremist enterprise.
