Trump Threatens ‘Very Serious’ Investigation into ‘Sloppy’ Chris Christie

President Donald Trump has signaled that he may move to reopen an investigation into former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s infamous 2013 “Bridgegate” scandal.

Trump put Christie on notice while blasting his onetime ally turned vocal critic as “Sloppy Chris.”

In a late-night Truth Social post, Trump accused Christie of lying about his role in the politically motivated lane closures on the George Washington Bridge.

The president suggested that Christie avoided prison by throwing his staff under the bus.

“I just watched Sloppy Chris Christie be interviewed on a ratings-challenged ‘News’ Show, ‘This Week With George Slopadopolus,’ on ABC Fake News,” Trump wrote.

“Do you remember the way he lied about the dangerous and deadly closure of the George Washington Bridge in order to stay out of prison, at the same time sacrificing people who worked for him, including a young mother, who spent years trying to fight off the vicious charges against her?”

“Chris refused to take responsibility for these criminal acts,” the president added.

“For the sake of JUSTICE, perhaps we should start looking at that very serious situation again?

“NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW!”

Trump’s post came hours after Christie appeared on ABC News’ “This Week.”

During the interview, Christie attacked Trump for allegedly “seeing himself as the person who gets to decide everything.”

He also accused the president of ignoring the separation of powers between the White House and criminal investigators.

Once a rising Republican star and a 2016 presidential contender, Christie was long dogged by the “Bridgegate” scandal.

Christie’s top allies conspired to close lanes on the George Washington Bridge.

The closure was in retaliation against the Democrat mayor of Fort Lee for refusing to endorse Christie’s reelection.

Two Christie associates were convicted in 2016 but later saw their convictions overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2020.

Christie denied knowledge of the scheme but faced political fallout that derailed his national ambitions.

Despite endorsing Trump in 2016 and advising him during his first term, Christie has since become one of Trump’s most vocal GOP critics.

He challenged Trump in the 2024 Republican primary but dropped out before voting began after consistently polling in the single digits.

Trump, who has made holding corrupt political insiders accountable a central theme of his presidency, suggested Christie’s past should not be forgotten.

“For the sake of justice,” Trump wrote, “perhaps we should start looking at that very serious situation again.”

The comments continue Trump’s pattern of counterpunching against former allies who have turned on him, underscoring the sharp divide between the president and Christie.

Although Chritie was once an ally, he is now one of Trump’s loudest Republican detractors.
